Nothing beats a real DSi XL for DS games, but you can get pretty close on a 3DS with TWiLightMenu++ and TWPatch. Tried this yesterday to match with a friend’s DS and was genuinely impressed.

My setup: N3DS with double IPS screens. I mostly run Linear Sharpen 1 or the Sonos Crisp tweaked setting, with reds and yellows punched up a bit to nail that oversaturated DS look. There are already good guides out there on how to use the apps, so I won’t rehash that.

One thing worth noting: I don’t bother with Pixel Perfect mode on the N3DS – the tweaked filter settings look great to me. On the N3DS XL though it’s a different story. The larger screen makes it noticeably harder to get a satisfying result, so I’d lean toward Pixel Perfect there. If you hate the look of that, some TWPatch tweaking still improves things considerably over the default.

Oh, and completely unrelated but also very related: Bomberman DS 2 is absolutely peak. Single and multiplayer both. Had no idea. Play it.

I skipped the DS back in the day just started Bowsers inside story and it’s so wholesome;)
