I MADE IT WORK: HERE ARE THE STEPS I TOOK
To play the Modern Warfare 1 campaign in 2024 you need to:
– Download the game through the Xbox phone app (yes, even if you have the disc).
– Go to the microsoft store (yes, if you try to download packs from the game, it will take you to a broken microsoft store page) in your console and look for the game. Click on the game, go to the « included in this bundle » tab. Click on Modern Warfare Standard Edition.
– Go to the add ons tab. Download everything there. Be sure have everything downloaded in the same drive (game and packs).
– Launch the game. Press A to launch it online. Go to the right of the screen and click on campaign. It will show a list of downloads of packs you just installed, but it will say they’re not installed.
– Click on the ones you just installed (Campaigns, Spec Ops…). It will take you to their store page, and there will be a button to install them.
– Install the again. (YES, AGAIN).
– Close the game, and open it back up.
– Now launch it online, and the campaign will be playable now.
If you do ANYTHING different, it won’t work. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had trying to install a game. Nothing on the disc works. Absolutely nothing. There are multiple ways it could go wrong, and the answer will never be the first thing you think of. Nothing else online tells you step by step what I just told you, they’ll just tell you outdated information or to « install the packs », but there are MULTIPLE ways to install the packs and only one way works. This game is a fucking mess. This was all a fucking mess. This better be the best game I’ll ever play, because it took me more than 48h, a bunch of headaches, people gaslighting me saying it’s « very straight forward actchually » (MY LARGE ASS), more than 100gb going in and out of my storage multiple times and hours upon hours of downloads. I BOUGHT THE FUCKING DISC. And the disc isn’t just a license as a bunch of people say. You can install 70gb+ of data from the disc if you’re offline, but absolutely nothing works. I really hope Microsoft solves the fucking mess is trying to install a COD campaign today, because all that launcher, packs, downloads bullshit ain’t it. All the hundreds of other games I have I just need to put the disc in and it will work, it will probably download a patch, BUT IT WILL FUCKING WORK. Not this one. You need to be a fucking genius to make this one work. Otherwise it will just download warzone instead. They’re selling this game at full price in the Microsoft store in my region.
