I’ve been on the hunt for wireless Xbox 360 controllers as I like the feel of them much better than Xbox One/Series. I recently bought a “generic” one from Amazon, which worked perfectly right out of the box with the receiver dongle, but the controller itself feels cheap, and I’d like to get OEM controllers instead.
My confusion is around many eBay listings for official Xbox 360 controllers that are used or refurbished, and listed as 2.4Ghz wireless, yet NONE of them come with the receiver. These are all “tested and working” but…how? Even some that include the original packaging do not include the receiver.
I totally get that there are many Chinese knock offs/fakes out there, but I’m zeroing in on legit sellers with official Microsoft items.
So my questions are:
* Were Xbox 360 wireless controllers ever sold *without* receivers? Do these work in some other way with Xbox consoles, or was it assumed that you already owned a receiver sold separately?
* Can I buy multiple OEM 360 controllers and connect them to *one* OEM receiver? (I understand that there’s a quick driver identification process to get that working on Windows 10)
* I’ve read that the generic receivers use the same protocol as the OEMs. I’d love to use the generic receiver I already own and pair OEM controllers to it, but [this one](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/713vvKSCl8L._AC_SX679_.jpg) does not have a pairing button on it – it’s just a solid 2.4ghz dongle. So not sure how I would sync the OEM controllers
* Bonus: Are there generic 2.4ghz USB dongles that work with OEM 360 controllers that *aren’t* a huge potato? Would love the form factor of the Xbox One Windows adapters if possible!
Thank you!
