The Wii and Wii U games always felt like parallel universe sequels to the first DKC, not incorporating any of the changes from the second and third games and making different creative decisions.

I didn't like them (after 3 playthroughs each) but could never articulate why. This video by PostMesmeric finally did.

These include: reducing Diddy's role, not having interesting bonus rooms, making DK the focus, diminishing the role of animal buddies, and being mostly a left-to-right scrolling game.

DKC2 and DKC3 were the opposite of these: Donkey Kong was sidelined, the bonus rooms were interesting and varied, levels frequently had you going in different directions, and you transformed into animal buddies, and no Kong was strictly better than the other–each had their strengths and weaknesses.

      The atmospheres…

DKC from ness have a more “Cinematic” feelings the Minions have character, the BOSS looks like a film vilain…

The Dark mood, from DK2, the aventure feelings…

      IS a better game…

To me, Tropical Freeze would have been a better game if it wasn’t focused so much on being a precision platformer.

The problem isn’t that the game is fast-paced, it’s that it’s both fast-paced AND precarious. Most levels don’t allow you to stop and catch your breath, you’re always running and in most cases, you’re always jumping across bottomless pits.

    3. You were never able to come up with your own reasons for not liking the Return games so you just grafted onto someone else’s opinions? You might want to work on your own articulation if you can’t organize your own thoughts well enough to construct pros and cons. [Mandatory LOL to lighten the potential perceived tone of this comment]

    4. Personally DK’s diminished roll was a big net negative for me in 2 & 3.  I agree on the bonus rooms and animal companions though. As well as more varied level traversal probably being my biggest issue with the newer games.

I think I can add another one, the biomes didn’t change from level to level as drastically as the originals. For example, while world 5 of DKCR is fantastic, the levels just blend with eachother.

So did you just close your eyes whenever you played as Dixie Kong? Because yeah, outside of a few places where you needed a heavier kong to reach a secret the monkies were regularly better then the big apes and Dixie was just strictly better then Diddy, I actually defy you to tell me a real feasible benefit to playing as Diddy Kong over Dixie Kong.

dixie was totally easy mode in 2 for many levels. It’s been a long while since I played 3, but it should be similar.
