Virtual boy was cool. A bit ahead of its time and ahead of the technology of the time I think. One of its other serious obstacles was Nintendo’s traditionally bad marketing. Nobody really knew what the fuck it was, and naming it “Virtual boy” made people think it was one of their traditionally wacky addons for the Gameboy or something.
Also I think even if they had been able to manage to make it two colors, like red and green and allowed mixing the two to get shades of yellow too, would’ve made the thing a lot more palatable both for developers and for gamers. Monochrome red just didn’t do the trick.
