Any new media that “take the world by storm” and if it’s really popular with kids, there will always be idiots that will create bs as to why this thing is bad.
Disinformation played a big role on that, especially in the 90s. I still remember anime being called satanic, videogame breaks your tv and makes you violent. Heck, even Yu-gi-oh got banned here in Brazil because idiots on TV kept saying to parents to take away the cards from their kids because was satanic. Someone even tried to convince my mom to do the same.
