Having a NES is what weaned me from playing videogames with a joystick to begin with, and so I always thought it was weird to see Nintendo act like using a joystick to play Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda was preferable to using a trusty ol’ D-pad.

Yeah I loved it. Much better control in many games.

It wasn’t really good for a lot of stuff, honestly. If I remember correctly, it was most useful for piloting the Statue of Liberty during a ghostbusting emergency, and don’t get me wrong, that came in handy. But if you weren’t using it for that then you just didn’t get much out of the thing, besides turbo, that a regular controller didn’t do.

Slow Motion button was the only way I was finally able to complete Metroid. I just wasn’t coordinated enough to be at Motherbrain without it initially.
It was an awesome joystick, HEAVY, so you didn’t have to try to hold it down.
