    1. After 20 years of searching, in June 15th of this year, I’ve found an F-Zero AX machine that’s functional. And boy, it was great.

Last year I discovered thanks to the F-Zero reddit that an arcade machine of F-Zero AX was close to my city. Even though I had to pick a train and then a taxi, I thought it was worth a try. I’ve spent an hour playing this one and nothing else, even after seeing Marvel vs Capcom 2. AX is that good.

The biggest surprise to me is that your vehicle controls different than in GameCube. In GX, you drift by using either L, R or both, normally both, unless you do an MTS. But in AX, you drift by tapping once the break pedal, kinda like Burnout. I discovered it after the third race and, while I had to develop a different muscle memory for this game, I also got better thanks to that.

Another small yet crucial difference is how your top speed setup works in the first second of any race. In GX, there was no big difference because you have to get fast anyway, but in AX, a top speed vehicle works as in F-Zero X, which means you need more seconds to catch up to your rivals. It’s a subtle difference.

I wish I could play more, but I had to pick a train. And yeah, now I can officially say that I’ve played AX.

I’m also editing a video for the future. After adding the english subtitles, I’ll post it here.
