I think no self respecting company will ever use it, to me companies that used generative ai are the ones that doesn’t believe in their product and doesn’t deserve my money nor respect

AI as it stands is snake oil and potentially a legal nightmare so glad Nintendo are staying away and making games like they’ve always done.

    3. … for now.

I feel like this is something that’s getting a lot of pushback, but it won’t be 100% out of game development in the future. It won’t replace programmers, artists, writers or the rest of the dev teams… but it will be a tool that they all use to enhance things.

Ngl, I feel like they would be the last company to do that, not because I have good faith in them, I just think they are really behind time to use it.

When Nintendo will not provide capable hardware, also 3rd party studios cannot make use of AI on the device. In 10 years use of AI will be totally normal and Nintendo left behind. Sad.

I mean this is a very good thing, but also it doesn’t really surprise me that Nintendo isn’t going with a new technology.

I am not like existentially opposed to all forms of AI generated imagery, but for big projects it’s extremely superior to hire humans, in terms of the ethics of hiring and human labor, and the quality and creativity of the end result.

Or they will at some point during development but won’t tell anyone about it.

I sure hope not. Those games should have more care put into them, giving their price to make and for us to buy.

      Imagine 60$ AI slop

It’s kind of sad that we have to be explicitly told this, but good to here either way

    11. That’s one way of saying that Switch 2 won’t have the processing power for AI

Oh thank god Furukawa said that thing I’ve known for well over a year now tech bros will shut the fuck up.

    13. I program for work and the times I have tried using AI for work have been a mixed bag. And mostly negative.

The best case scenarios have been for simple scripts, but even in those scenarios I can often write the code I need to faster than asking AI to do and proofreading it.

For anything mildly complex, AI is absolute garbage. It’s a liability to both your career and the organization for you are to rely on it.

Props to Nintendo for not jumping on the AI hype train to try and inflate their stock here

      Edit: typo

*Nintendo won’t tell their consumers they are using generative AI.

Don’t forget they used AI upscaled textures for SM64 in 3D All Stars.

they also said they didnt want to do paid DLC which they then did.

Nintendo doesn’t always make the best decisions, especially when it comes to fan developers. But this right here, make no mistake, is correct.
