What if Terraria Had a SHIMMER DLC?
What if Terraria were to get a DLC that expanded upon the magical shimmer biome? I’m talking about new bosses, new dungeons and structures, and of course, some new weapons. Let’s hop in game and find out. We are here trying to find some mods that expand my favorite newest biome from Terraria, aka the beautiful Shimmer. Look at this place. The place where you come to transform things. Look at all these regular slimes turning into shimmer slimes. And also, watch this. We sink through. Oh my god, we get to look at the beautiful space until the game decides to deliver me somewhere where I could stand. Perfect. But yeah, we’re going to find a bunch of mods that expand upon this. There’s honestly not too many, which is a little bit upsetting cuz at this point, the shimmer has been out for what, a year, maybe even two, and there’s only a handful of mods that expand on it. But let’s get to it. We got bosses, we got bigger biomes. Let’s just start with making this biome a little bit bigger. All right, cuz right now when you look at it on the map, it’s kind of tiny. It’s really small. Even the puddle itself looks tiny. Like they they could have made it a little bit bigger. This is a large world. So, it’s kind of surprising. But let’s get to it. So, as you can see, we are in the beautiful world of the remnants mod. Just look at this. Look at just how beautiful it is. And obviously, a mod that changes this much terrain is going to change the shimmer. Boom. Take a look at this. We got two shimmer areas. We got like a whole little castle, little dungeon looking area. And then we just got like the natural shimmer area. Let’s go to it. Oh my god, it’s so beautiful. I honestly think I like this more than I like the vanilla just base pool. Like this is what the vanilla base pool would like expand into. And obviously we got some beautiful stuff here like the athetherum blocks themsself which you usually get I think by just throwing stone into shimmer is how you get this. Let’s see if I remember. Oh is dirt blocks is dirt. You get them somehow. Yeah it’s cool here. What is this? Can I break that? Whoa. Dream jelly. They even got their own little custom dream jelly. But obviously to maneuver through this biome, we got to take the the pools themselves. And eventually, we will end up where we need to go, aka down here to the actual dungeon. And look at this. This place looks sick. Look at the little books in the background, the little shiny mirrors. And as we go through this biome, we get some new enemies. Enchanter. What’s my boy about to do? Damn, he sent out the little shimmer flies. I don’t know what those are. Shimmer bugs at us. kind of nasty. What about this one over here? Oh, look. He got books. Tome of Frost, Home of Mending, Minecraft with some new enemies that are sprinkled in this biome that got a little bit of shimmer vibes to them. Now, the other cool thing about this biome, just like the normal biome, is, you know, we got to use the shimmer itself to kind of get around through here. There’s certain areas where you can only get to like the loot and the chest if you take the little pools of shimmer. So, it’s kind of like a little puzzle. See, like there’s two chests in there and it doesn’t look like we can get in there normally. So, we got to take the pool to get in here. And boom. What kind of goodies y’all got in here? They got a weapon. Okay. Some new weapons in here. Some new Oh, shimmer arrows. That’s not really new. Wand of refinement. The shimmer magic in this wand makes certain walls look nicer. Okay. What about this chest? New accessory. All debuffs wear off 100% faster except for health and mana sickness. That’s kind of good. But it’s just a very cool mod to expand upon what the shimmer is, which is this magical liquid that you put things in. Pause. This sounded kind of freaky. Coolest thing is they do put some of the biome chests here. As we can see, we got the hollowed one. I think it might just be the hollowed one in this biome. But cool. You actually do have a reason to come here to get your hands on, you know, the hollowed biome chest weapon. Was it the rainbow gun? I love the remnants mod. And I think they did great with the shimmer. Let’s keep it pushing though. We got some more biomes to check out. Biome expansions actually. Can you notice the difference with this next mod? This one is called more shimmer. And as you can see, the the blocks look a little bit different here at the bottom of the pool. But let us sink down and we should end up exactly where we need to be. Look at that. Another new little expansion biome at the bottom down here. Wow, it looks really cool on the map. This sick like obsidian/ shade of black down here. Looks sick. What What is this block? Void block. Pretty sick looking. All right. How many times did I just say sick in the last couple seconds? What’s popping in the chest, though? What kind of goodies? Toast. Hell yeah. 41 stars. Damn. I wouldn’t say that’s a lot, but you do get a lot of stars. Ever since Dur 1.4 came out, like stars are easy to get your hands on. What is this? Just more Athereum blocks. Can’t go wrong with that. But just a nice little expansion just like the mod said. Shimmer expansion, I believe it’s called. More shimmer. Exclamation point. Hell yeah. You can literally drink a bottle to inflict shimmering. Why would you ever want to do that? I guess it only goes until you come out the other side. Okay, it’s not that bad. It said eight minutes on it, so I actually thought it was going to be super long. But we got bread, pancakes, toast, waffles. That don’t really look like a waffle. It look like peanut butter. Shimmer chest. Can’t go wrong with that. Just again a nice little expansion bomb. Nothing too major. Not like the remnants mod, but at the end of the day, it’s expanding. One of my favorite biomes in the game. How you supposed to get this chest right here? If I didn’t have like long ass reach, how am I supposed to get that? Can I do a driveby? Nope. Let’s keep it pushing. We got another biome expansion one to check out. Back in that beautiful shining place. Let’s drop down this time. Dropping down will lead us to a different type of shimmer mini biome mod. As we can see here, whoa, what’s popping? Hold up. They got the little the little thing. Oh, it wasn’t even turned on. There’s like two modes. There’s like a mode where you can turn it fully on. There’s a mode where it’s obviously off and then there’s like a medium mode, I guess. Let’s do the medium mode. That’s the the default here. But let’s drop into this pool of water. And we have officially entered the crystal castle as it’s called. And wow, look at that. I can’t even open that chest. It’s broken. Okay, mod dev. That’s something to look out for. Yeah, this biome here is called the Crystal Castle. Or maybe it’s just this little structure right here. I don’t know. But this is a uh sort of early on mod. I think this was made during a mini mod jam. And if you don’t know Mod Jam mods, they’re kind of mods that are they get made in like a certain amount of time. So, it could be a small window. And in that amount of time, obviously, they got to submit, send in the mod with what they got, and it’s got to have a certain theme. And I’m assuming this theme was a mini biomes, I believe. Expanded mini biomes, stuff like that. So, this mod developer decided, hey, let’s do the shimmer. I like this bigger area down here. I would like to see this mod in the future have a shimmer themed boss because it got a nice cool area where you could fight a shimmer themed boss. I don’t know if there’s any items from the mod. Oh, there is. Utilizes the mystical power shimmer to become amorphous. Hell yeah. I’ve always wanted to be amorphous. So, what I just hold left click down and look at that. I get phase through blocks. I am the shimmer god. Oh god. Okay, not when I actually interact with it though. Can I use this outside of the shimmer? Let’s see. Oh yeah, this is pretty good. I like this. But speaking about shimmer bosses, that’s exactly what we’re checking out next. You know, sometime Terraria’s world gen is very, very interesting. Like putting a whole dungeon through the snow biome and then the whole right side of the map is just the jungle. Like no in between. There’s no like little for Oh, I guess there is a little forest. Look at that. And then the shimmer is just in the middle of the jungle. And then don’t forget about the wee weeshaped beehives. Can’t forget about those. Let’s head over here though. We got some business to attend to. Let me light up this place so we can see. We have a boss that we are meant to fight here. And that boss is from the Forgotten Evils mod. Bring it in. What creature could this be? Oh, look at that. It’s the wyvern worm. I lied. Aether worm. And it has a new sprite, which I haven’t even seen until now because this sprite used to be a lot different. But yeah, we have our first Aether boss, shimmer boss, glimmer, whatever the hell. It’s a worm. Who doesn’t love worms? And not WM. No, worm as in like dragon family. Hold up. I should probably use a different weapon. And not the Zenith. I do have master mode on to see all its attacks, but at the end of the day, it’s a pretty hard one boss. You actually fight this boss right before Wall of Flesh. that area. Peep the moves though. He’s shooting out little stars at us earlier. Now he’s shooting little explosions. Little explosion of projectiles that going that little X form. I hate that noise. I’m not going to lie to you. Wrapping us in a circle. Hold up. What if I I I can’t fly usually in pre-ard mode. I’m not going to be able to stay like that forever. Wrapping us up in a circle is a good strategy, though. I guess if I’m standing on a platform, it wraps us up. That’s guaranteed damage. I got to take a hit. Oh [ __ ] What’s this move? Ooh, tons of stars. That’s what I’m calling those. I don’t know if they’re actually stars or not. Radiant light. They actually have a name. Spamming the radiant light move. Ooh, sometimes they shoot quick. That was like two that shot back to back really quickly. The fight’s kind of peaceful, which kind of represents this biome. A peaceful but still could be a challenging fight given a lot of projectiles here and there. And it’s a very small biome. You only have so much room to work with. These projectiles instead of shooting them in the X form they were shooting in. It’s like a plus. Now, let’s keep on doing more damage, though. Very peaceful boss compared to probably the next boss we’re going to fight. But I respect staying true to the theme. I think that’s all it moves, too. So, let’s take this boss out. Peace out, Aether Worm. What beautiful stuff do you drop for us? Endless shimmer potion. Damn. So, just like some of the other mods, at any time, we could just sip this potion and just start descending. This could actually be kind of useful, especially if you don’t really want to like dig down and stuff. I can see this being very useful. Oh, there you go. Popped out the other side. What else do we get? Aether scales, bat hide, aether essence. Let’s see what all this makes real quickly. Okay, so we get some new weapons. We can check this out later. But first, I want to check out the boss after that one from a different mod being Terraria Origins. If you watched the video I did recently of it, you know exactly who’s coming up. That boss being the eye Cthulhu. Yeah, that’s it. Why? No longer after me. Let’s try again. There he is. What’s up? Now, what we want is the eye to dash. And as he dashes through, he will be shimmerred. Oh my god. He then turns into the shimmer construct, shimmer eye cthulu, whatever you want to call it. Such a cool idea to shimmer a boss. That has never been done before. And the origin mod said, “Hey, let’s do it. Maybe in the future you can shimmer more bosses. I don’t know.” But it’s such a cool idea that Ithulu literally just dunks himself like he’s a Oreo going into some milk, bro. Just dunked himself in there. I didn’t have to do anything. We had this boss. It has his little shimmer pods on the outside. We can’t hit, bro, unless we break those pods. I mean, I guess technically we are doing damage to him. So, let’s break his little pods so we could get to the the real core of the fight. Boom. Pod’s gone. There’s Bro. Let me turn up the light so we can see what he looks like a little bit. There you go. Oh, I like that noise. That noise is way better than the the noise the the aether worm was making. But Bro got like a duplicate. You got like a mimic that he summons in every now and then to help shoot some more projectiles. He looks really cool. If you could just sit and look at him for a second, he looks sick. He looks exactly what you would expect from a shimmer. Damn, what the hell was that move? I lowkey like that. It kind of has similar attacks to the aether worm. So, all shimmer bosses, you know, they all got the exact same vibe in terms of attacks theme instead of insert theme for their attacks and everything like that. I like that move. That move is sick. But I think we seen enough. Take him out. Oh, he’s not done just yet. What is that? A portal? A rift? I don’t know. Oh, it’s sucking everything back in. And then look at this, bro. We are in like slow-mo now. Shimmering. Any proof you might have of what’s happened to you has gone substantial. Can I go through the floor? Oh [ __ ] So, you’re supposed to fight this thing through the floor. That’s kind of sick. So, now we could just move around. I don’t know if you need wings for this part or not, or if you could just like hover around. Who knows? I can’t use my grappling hook in here either. Yeah, it turns fully into the shimmer construct, which is just this weird I don’t know, portal being. It picked up like all the the pieces of us killing the the eye Cthulhu, like the shimmer eye cthulu, and just assembled it back into something, a construct of some sort. This is so cool, though. I think my favorite part might be the background. Look at the background. The background’s sick. Kind of scary at the same time. And I think I really messed with being able to just go through all the blocks and stuff. That makes this fight very different. The noises are weird as hell, too. Yeah. Let’s finish this boss off. We’ve seen a majority of his moves already. If you want to see potentially even more, probably check out the Origins mod video I did. But take it out. Take them out. Whoa. Teleported me over here and put all the loot midair so it doesn’t drop into the shimmer. Hell yeah. Now, let’s go ahead to finish off this video. Check out any shimmer themed items. Now, I know there’s a lot of mods we probably missed that just have shimmer themed items, but these were the main ones that either added new stuff like biomes or they just added in bosses and enemies. There might be a handful more. Let me know in the comments some of the ones I missed, but these are the ones off the top of my head. This is a cool sword. Literally, what is this? This is awesome. What else do we got? We got Aetherite ore. So, that’s also from the Origins mod. What does that go into? Aetherite bars, pocket dimension monolith. Pretty sick how there’s a bunch of items from this mod. We got shield of shimmer. So it’s pretty much shield of cthulu but shimmer resizing glove. Swung melee weapons will be a random size. What tiny big this is awesome. This is probably one of the coolest accessories I’ve seen. I like this idea. Let’s peep some more of those items though. Let’s see if I could spot them. We got a wreath. So there’s some armor wishing glass. Let’s see if I could spot it amongst the hundreds of items in here. That looks shimmer. Shimmer rod. Wo. So, we could put those uh little Nimbus clouds that the construct was using at the beginning of the fight, but we could like aim them any direction. Messing with that. Okay, what else we got? Shimmer Star Staff. Again, the attacks that the boss is using as our own. Sick. I always love when a mod does that. There’ll be a boss with some sick moves and then you beat the boss and then nothing happens. Like, you don’t get any weapons that are respective to the boss’s move set. So, I really like when mods do that. There obviously was some more, but I don’t know. You got to you got to dig a little deep to find all of them. There’s a lot of items in this mod. Whoa, look at this one. I like how it kind of like rips like a a rift, a space rift to shoot these arrows, but cool stuff. And then obviously there was the other mod that had some stuff. Wait, hold up. I saw the summon item. You know, I’m a big summer fan. Summer fan. Summon fan. I actually hate summer. Big winter fan. But look at this summon. I don’t even know what the summon does. Oh, it brings in one shimmer guardian. And the way it like attacks, it like spreads into like a shotgun blast and then reassembles itself. That’s kind of sick. All great ideas from the Origins mod. And then we got the Forgotten Evils mod, which also has its variety of shimmer stuff. What do we got? The bow. Damn, these arrows slow as hell, but I’m assuming they go through walls. No. Shatters wooden arrows. Oh, I’m not using wooden arrows. Peep the wooden arrows. Okay, there you go. So, it’s kind of like a like a burst rifle, but arrows. We got the Aether Edge. What does this do? Oh, shoots like a weird star projectile. Okay, we got aether staff summon. Ah, we get our own aether worm. It’s kind of funny. He has the old sprite cuz that’s the sprite I remember. Bro, he looked a little goofy before. Kind of OP though, bro. Using the same attacks the actual boss is using. But yeah, that was all the mods that expand the shimmer that I got my hands on here. Very fun. I love the shimmer. It’s my favorite little biome they added in most recently.
