New DOOM The Dark Ages DLC Story Details and Next Update Confirmed!

Exciting new details in the future of Doom: The Dark Ages were just revealed. This does include more information for the campaign DLC, direct confirmation on what will be featured in the next major update, and the announcement that a live showcase of that huge content drop will be hosted in the very near future. The game also quietly received a notable amount of combat changes that you probably aren’t even aware of. So, today we’ll be covering everything you need to know about recently released and upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages content. It was previously mentioned that cinematics in the singleplayer expansion would be a little different than what was present in the main campaign, and game director Hugo Martin finally explained what that means during chapter 16 of Slayer’s Club Live. A lot of you will be very happy to hear that a notable amount of DLC cutscenes will be in first person, as they want this story to feel much more personal and immersive, much like Doom 2016. A few months back, Hugo also teased that the overarching narrative would focus on the Slayer hunting down Hell’s High Council, and he recently confirmed that the council is currently occupied by the all powerful Order of the Six. These demonic rulers left Azri in charge of leading Hell’s armies against the Sentinels and could be directly responsible for the invasion of Doomguy’s home world in the classic trilogy, meaning that we might finally see the Slayer scour the Emerald Plains to seek vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. While we do know that the betrayer son Merrick won’t die or become the icon of sin during the DLC, it has been stated that he’ll still play a meaningful role throughout the story line. Hugo left us with three possible hints towards the end of the live stream. He first suggested that the Slayer and Merrick won’t have a friendly relationship during the expansion, then alluded to the idea that both the iconic arch file enemy type and the cosmic realm level theme would be returning. I see you say uh Ian says I think American Doom guy would be good friends. Interesting. Interesting. And then uh Hugo, are we seeing the return of the arch file in the DLC? Interesting. I hope we see more of the Ka Grand in the DLC. Interesting. Keep in mind that while these aren’t direct teasers, it’s pretty common for Hugo to drop subtle yet important hints just like this. So, it’s absolutely worth taking into consideration going forward. Early on in the episode, it was finally confirmed that the next major Doom: The Dark Ages update will introduce the Rivtorium 2.0, amongst other things. It’s expected that players will gain access to previously confirmed content such as pre-made encounters, enemy loadout saving, individual wave customization, and the ability to share your creations with friends. I also wouldn’t be surprised if additional cosmetic rewards and new arenas were included to help expand the experience, although that’s nothing more than speculation. Hugo and Josh are taking a break from streaming next week. But it was thankfully announced that if all goes according to plan, the duo will return on Thursday, November 6, with an exclusive preview of the new content drop, including a sneak peek at the Riptorium 2.0. The Dark Ages quietly received an update through the active tunable system earlier this week, meaning that no download was required, and most players probably aren’t even aware that anything was changed. It was clarified that some of these changes were made in preparation for the upgraded riptorium, which is why the overall speed of the Kako demon’s lightning wall projectile was reduced and the cosmic baron’s range guillotine attack no longer immediately breaks the player shield upon impact. The acceleration of projectile spawned following enhanced Asterric’s dive attack has been lowered, and the base damage of a spear throw cannot break the shield saw in a single shot on two types damage or lower. Brink of death for the Atland mech was adjusted across all difficulties. And basic Titan enemies now drop a slightly increased amount of health, giving players a better chance at fighting their way back from near-death experiences. A suspiciously high number of Outland related changes were introduced in a tunables patch that was aimed at preparing the game for the riptorium 2.0, possibly suggesting that players will soon be able to customize their own mech battles. Game director Hugo Martin recently shared new details on DLC combat, mobility, and progression. Click on the video that’s on screen now to learn more. Thank you all so much for watching today’s video. I hope you enjoyed it. That’s pretty much all that I have for now, though. Until next time.
