NBA 2K25 Gameplay: Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks – (Xbox Series X) [4K60FPS]
Tonight’s your night. You are Let’s bring out for your Dallas. [Applause] [Applause] at center 6′ 10 number seven why power [Applause] starting at point guard standing 6’5 number 26 Spencer That power at 6’6 in number 25 [Applause] J. Starting at the other forward position at 6′ 6 in number 13 Marshall. Marshall starting at the other guard standing 6’5 number 31. [Applause] Happy Halloween and welcome to NBA basketball on 2K Sports. Nothing scary about this matchup. Along with Hall of Famer Doris Burke and Grant Hill, I’m Brian Anderson. Alli Leforce joins us from the sidelines. So the Houston starting five fan fleet and green they’re manning the back court. Operon Shangon out there with him in Thompson and it’s Brooks in at the three small forward. And for the Mavericks we’ve got PJ Washington Spencer Denwitty is out there with Klay Thompson. Then there’s Dwight Powell and it’s Marshall in it. Small forward Grant to be here for some horrifying hoops on Halloween. You like that? I do. That’s pretty good, man. What could be scarier than losing on Halloween? Looks like a lot of the fans showed up with their Halloween spirit. So, it should be fun for everyone choosing to spend their evening with us. Now, here’s Thompson. Pass to Marshall. Now, Denwitty 43. That one is off. Pen Fleet against Denwitty. The floater. Pam Fleet misses. Let’s send it to Ally the Force who caught up with head coach Jason Kidd. Ally, we talked about how Alfen Shenun can act as a facilitator. Coach said he sees the floor like nobody else. He’s got a great mind for the game and if you let him find his guy out of the high post, he will punish you. No doubt about it. They’re aware he is the engine of this offense. Okay, thank you Ally. And it’s hammered home by Green. And this guy can just fly. Green lifts off and slams it down. Pass to Marshall. Now Thompson. Green covering. Brooks against Washington. Pow. A screen on Thompson. Marshall. Rebounded by Green. I’m still a bit confused as to why he shot it from that distance. I think as a player you have to know your strengths and play to them and that is not within his range. Doris, one place you see this Dallas team show up is in the hustle stands. This version of the Dallas Mavericks is as tough and as gritty and as willing to compete as any I’ve seen. It’s his first trip to the line. [Music] The free throw dropped for Brooks. Well, Grant, after three straight drafts high in the lottery, the Rockets got to 500 in 2024. Yeah, and I love how they signed some vets in the summer of 23. Houston decided we want to win now and I wish more teams did that. [Applause] And Brooks drops them both. You have to respect Brook’s approach to the game. He’s always looking for little ways to improve and wants every year to be his best. Denwitty finds Thompson. Back to Denwitty. Rebound by Van Bleet. Well, conversions have been a problem. 0 for four. Pass to Shenon. Brooks with it. Soft touch off the glass. A throwback wing. Dylan Brooks is very comfortable working down low. Thompson outside. [Applause] from deep gets the three to fall. A huge sigh of relief. One for five now. Let’s see if they can keep it going [Applause] here in the first. Just under two and a half minutes played so far. Green against Thompson. Takes a three and it’s Green missing. Maverick trail by three. Pass to Denwitty. Powell outside. Here’s Thompson beyond the arc. Here’s Denwitty. Sinks that one after missing his first two attempts. Now one for three. That’s a bit of relentlessness on the glass by Spencer Denwitty. Nice job controlling his effort. fans lead on the wing and there’s the whistle. The illegal screen is the call. One of the trickier plays to judge, but it would be hard to argue against the call. It is really difficult to get your feet completely set, to stay completely still. It’s almost surprising to me that it isn’t called more often. Pass to Marshall. Back to Denwitty. Thompson outside. Denwitty with a screen on green. Thompson outside. Just five to shoot. Denwitty against Van Vleet. So they take the lead. Denwitty’s got his second bucket. Well, Denwitty is a very capable mid-range scorer. You love to see him find his rhythm. Van Vleet. The pass to Shenun. Back to Van Vleet. He shoots out to Thompson. Pass to Brooks. goes back up. Pal pulls it in. Dallas has gone one for five from three-point range. A cold start with the step back. Thompson passes to Washington. Thompson outside and the basket’s good. Off the assist from Binwitty. Thompson’s got six points. At his absolute best play Thompson rising fire on the catch. Good night defense. And Emeka has called timeout. He’s going to talk it over with his guys. [Applause] Here comes your detail crew. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat up here. Edwards. He’s checked in for Dallas. And while we have a break, here were some of the top free throw shooters in the game last season. Number one, Klay Thompson. This guy is just lights out from the line. He demonstrated that last season and really hurt teams whenever they fouled him. Van Vleet finds Thompson. Now here’s Green. Thompson with a steal and that makes him three for four. He’s looking good and Houston has possession. They trail by six coming into this having knocked the win against San Antonio in their last game. You have to credit the game plan going in, especially at the offensive end where they were just so relentless. And that’s not an easy environment to play in. To score at the rate they did on the road says a lot about their intensity and focus. Now here’s Denwitty. He had a 12-point outing in their last game against Minnesota. Six to shoot. Count it. His third and five attempts. Boy, it seems like every shot he puts up, it’s going in. This guy is hot. Hot Van Fleet. The pass to Shenun. And here is Thompson down low. Oh, and that one, no question, powered it down. Yeah, just showcasing his athleticism. When Brooks gets open space around the rim, he looks to throw it down with authority. Now, here’s Denwitty. Six points for him. He gets rebounded by Shangun. Boy, nine times out of 10 that’s going in. I’m sure he surprised himself with the miss. Since being selected in the 21 draft, Alper and Shenun has really improved. Yet from nine points per game as a rookie to over 20 in his third year, Shingun has averaged about five assists per game over a season. A huge number for a 611 post guy. He is so skilled. Here’s Denwitty after the basket by Houston. to the paint. Kingun with a steal. Vanle with it. Hasn’t gotten one to fall yet. To the inside. They get it again. The put back. Controls the rebound and the put back. You got to love how he’s stuck with the play. Nice work. Penwitty passes to Pal. [Applause] Pass to Marshall. Pow with screened on Brooks. [Applause] Here’s Marshall. Brooks defending. Here’s Edwards for three. Denwitty nails it from three. Denwitty’s got nine. So, the advantage they have right now is largely based on his play. What an outstanding night. Now, here’s Van Vleet. [Applause] Brooks left side over Edwards and it’s off the back of the rim. No good. And here’s Denwitty. He’ll bring it up for the Dallas Mavericks leading by five. This is the first they’re seeing of Houston. And while they were regarded as the better team, they actually lost the season series last year. Of course, matchups play a big part in that. Brooks outside. Back to Van Fleet. Shangoo. The screen to the middle. And Shangon throw it down. High IQ of Fred Vanley is why he is so good in pick and roll action. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. A moment to rest and confer on the game plan. Okay, get up and get ready for [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] And the Mavericks with some changes. Washington’s checked in for Powell. Christy comes in for Thompson. And Williams is subbed in for Denwitty. And the Rockets will go for a different look here. Steven Adams checked in for Shangun. Smith comes in for Thompson. Een’s checked in for Brooks. And it’s Cam Whitmore in for Fred Vanley. Dallas leading by five. [Music] Here’s Williams. Two minutes remaining in the first. Washington outside. [Music] Williams against Green. Lets it go from the wing. Williams misses. I love how they’ve attacked the boards here in the first quarter. And Grant, you look at the Rockets additions over the last year or two. There’s an emphasis on toughness. Yeah, toughness, both physical and mental. Those are the kinds of veterans they brought in. And that extends, of course, to the coaching staff, too. And so, it’s Dallas with it. The Rockets getting their last shot to go. Here’s Williams. Great look there, but off target. Good shot, gone bad. You got to finish there. Een with the ball. He’s picked up by Edwards outside Whitmore. [Applause] Adams a screen tipped away and stolen by Edwards. Pass to Washington. Takes the assist and lays it in. Nice setup and the Mavericks lead by five. All right, let’s get your take, guys, on the hustle stats for the Mavericks. Yeah, they’re just attacking on defense, getting those hands out and knocking the ball free. I really like their energy defensively. And the other thing that’s working for them tonight, getting out into the open floor, a lot of the damage coming in transition. Now here’s Williams. No made baskets yet. [Applause] The Rockets pull it in. 7second difference between the shot clock and the game clock. Here’s Smith. Oh, the dunk by Smith. Wow. Smith going for a slam. He wants everyone to know that he’s arrived. [Applause] Green against Williams. [Applause] Pocket six. Pass to Washington. Can’t cash it in from close range. And so it’s Klay Thompson making highlights for the Mavericks. He put together 10 points in the quarter. We’ll be right back. [Music] [Music] And we hope you’re enjoying the game. Both teams tonight keeping things pretty even on the scoreboard so far. And before we move on, what do you guys think about what we’ve seen from the Mavericks? Well, they’ve really been racking up three-pointers in bunches. They’ve been so impressive to watch, and that’s what has them ahead in this game. Their floor spacing has been just tremendous. So, the Rockets five now. Smith and Shingun play together in the front court. Cam Whitmore out there with Aaron Holiday. And it’s Een in at the small forward position and he gets the bucket. Yes. Slashing toward the hoop. Whitmore not hesitating when he sees an opportunity. Pass to Edwards. Martin outside [Music] Washington. A screen on E inside. Oh, stolen by Smith. [Applause] Een against Williams. The ball’s knocked loose. Here’s Shingun and it’s Houston scoring again. Along with everything he can do in the paint, Shingun’s mid-range game provides some pop as well. Martin out three-pointer and it’s Whitmore with the rebound. Houston leading by four. Quarter number two with just over a minute of play and it won’t go. His first miss. He’s two of three now from Mavericks shooting at a decent clip. 45% for the game. Edwards looking for an opening. Pass to Martin. Takes the three. It’s held in by Houston. Outside Holiday. Second quarter here. Just over a minute and a half played of Top Shenu. Here’s Een. He’s guarded by Martin. Shot clock at six. Smith finds Changun. Edwards pulls it in. Average trail by four. Martin outside. Pass to Edwards. Martin outside. Well, Doris, for a while the amount of three-pointers seem to grow exponentially. I think it’s plateaued now. You know, BA, I’m not sure I agree that it’s plateaued. What we do know unequivocally is these organizations have defined how to be the most efficient basketball team. And each and every year, we’re setting records in that category. They’re just getting smart about the kinds of shots you want and when. We’re seeing more shots at the rim. And we’re still heavily emphasizing the three-point line. All right, guys. Let’s get your take on the scoring breakdown for the Rockets. Ever since this game started, they’ve been attacking on the inside, looking for ways to bust up the defense and get high percentage looks. Yeah, and in addition, their ball movement has really unleashed their offense. Boy, they’ve been fun to watch. [Applause] Here’s Williams. No points yet. Washington outside, fires from deep. Pure from three-point range. The defense really fell apart there. You can’t afford to leave them all alone at the arc. All right, let’s check in with Alli Le Force. ABA. Well, the Rockets got a lot more organized with coach Eay Udoka and their veteran additions, including point guard Fred Van Vleet, who said it’s just having that poison presence to slow things down and get guys where they need to be. Rain it in, get some structure, and maximize these guys potential. VA Ally, a great floor general. Thanks for that. And we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kidd. We might see him looking to make some tweaks to the strategy here. It’s dance time. Get ready everybody. You see yourself on the screen, you show your best moves. Let’s go. [Applause] [Music] Uh, two left there. Oh, that is not The Mavericks making a switch here. Jones has checked in. Thompson, he’s checked in for the Rockets. Fred Van Vleet comes in for Holiday. [Applause] Left side. Williams. Jones sets a screen. The kick out to Williams. Tries again. Martin outside and out of bounds. Houston will have it. All right, here’s a look at the schedule for the Dallas Mavericks. On Sunday, they’ll defend home court against the Orlando Magic. And then Monday, they’ll defend home court against the Indiana Pacers. And for their matchup with Phoenix, it will be the ninth bit of action for them during the young season. Every game a step closer to the finish line. Thompson outside. Pass to Whitmore. Now here’s Shangun defended by Jones. The jump hook. Shangon no good. And Williams has got the ball here for Dallas. They come into this one following the loss to Minnesota. It was frankly embarrassing. I was shocked by their disorganization and I think they were too. Well, frankly, they should be shocked. I mean, that kind of effort simply won’t cut it in today’s NBA. Let’s see if they take any lessons from it. Great teamwork on that drive, punctuated by a strong finish, going right to the rim, which is where you want transition opportunities to end. Now here’s Martin. 11 points for him. Last game against the Timberwolves in Minnesota. Now Thompson pass to Shangon. Now here’s Van Lee. [Applause] Shot clock at five. E with the ball guarded by Edwards. E can’t get it to go. Mavericks trail by six. [Applause] Outside Williams. And here’s Martin. Laid it in with a nice touch off the window. Martin’s got his first two points of the night. The Rockets have gotten over 50% of their shots to go. Five for nine in the second. Hands lead on the wing. Williams defending and it’s Whitmore missing. Dallas has gone just one of five so far this quarter from three. [Music] Outside Williams and he drives in. He gets rebounded by Houston to the inside. [Applause] Outside Whitmore pass to Van Vleet. Here’s Thompson. Jones comes with a double team. Here’s Van Vleet. Edwards pulls it in. Mavericks trail by four. [Music] Outside Williams. Martin outside the three. Een pulls it in and the defense got away with one there. I mean, that’s the shot he typically makes. Pass to Whitmore. Thompson outside. Shangon. The screen. Back to Whitmore. Launches it. The basket’s good. off the assist from Thompson. Thompson’s got four assists now tonight. Nice find by Thompson. Now, good to see him sharing the ball like this. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. I’m going to give up for the [Applause] with your cloud and love here. All right, everyone. I want you to get out of your seats and make some noise. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] and the Mavericks going with a whole new group out there. And with a pause in the action, here we have the best rebounding teams from last year. The fourth spot held by the Rockets. Well, they made a huge commitment to rebounding last year and it showed in the numbers. They were spectacular. Mavericks trail by seven. Denwitty passes to Marshall. Back to Denwitty. Green against Thompson. [Applause] Down to five on the shot clock. From outside the ark. It’s held in by Houston and they’re doing strong work on the glass. A plus five advantage for them. Brooks against Pal. Now here’s Brooks. Tightly guarded. No good from 11 ft. Washington with the ball. Checked by Brooks. Thompson against Denwitty. Thompson outside. Let’s go with a three. And the basket’s good. Off the assist from Denwitty. Thompson’s got 13 now. That’s his first triple of the second period. Third of the game. Such a tenacious competitor. When Brooks looks to score inside, he is so skilled at finding ways to draw contact. And this will be his second trip to the free throw line. Good job. First free throw is good. [Applause] and Brooks drops them both. And so Denwitty will bring it up for the Dallas Mavericks. Following this game, they host the Magic. It’ll be game number two in their five-game home stand. Washington outside. Thompson outside from the arc and Dallas hits again from deep. They’re going to have to pay more attention to him on the perimeter. He’s hit four three-pointers already today. Outside Green [Music] Brooks outside. No good from outside. Well, they have the advantage, but you still feel like this guy needs to find a way to get himself going. And that one’s good. Thompson always ready to rise and fire from anywhere. Thompson’s mid-range jumper is pure. And here’s Brooks. Give him eight points now. Got a piece of it. Wow. Holding offense. It’s been fun to watch. They’re just aggressive and effective. Taking it right to the defense. Now here’s Denwitty to the paint. Oh, Clay Thompson with the bounce. Get up, Clay. This guy Klay Thompson can get as hot as any player in the NBA. And when he’s this efficient, boy, he is dangerous. Thompson outside. Back to Van Vleet. There’s the three. Yes. And a nice assist from Thompson. Three. Thompson’s got five assists in the game. Well, I mean, listen, the red man blink, he can practically close his eyes. That’s how comfortable he is out on the ark. Now, here’s Washington. He’s got seven. It’s stolen by Green. Here’s Smith. And the layup is good off the glass. Assisted. Smith’s got his second basket of the game. Yeah. So smart to go to a shooter to finish the fast break. And coach has to like seeing Smith hustle to complete the play. Then when he finds Washington up top, Thompson. How the screen on Green. Here’s Thompson. And that one comes up a bit short. Pass to Thompson. It’s tipped. [Applause] Washington inside, no good. Misses at the buzzer. And a pretty tightly contested game here as we end the first half. It’s Houston up by four. And we’ll be back for the second half following the break. Keep it right here on 2K Sports. It is a wonderful night for basketball and a wonderful time to get a quick wonderful rundown of how the wonderful West looks early on in this wonderful season. Is that too many wonderfuls? No, you’re wonderful. When I look at Dallas, they’ve looked okay early on, but it’s going to take a lot of work to get this team to the next tier. Plenty of competition ahead of them and not much room for error. And we now take a look at the Houston Rockets and the close first half they’ve played. I like what they’re doing, playing with physicality. They’ve worked hard to gain the edge in areas like rebounding. Yeah, that’s the difference in the game. That’s it for us. Thanks for tuning in. Now, let’s send you over to Brian Anderson with the third period. And we’re ready to get this second half of our Halloween broadcast going. And you know, Klay Thompson has been really making it happen, guys. He’s hit shot after shot from deep. He’s so locked in right now. Well, he’s in a great rhythm, looking comfortable and confident. [Applause] And Houston has possession. Four-point game. Thompson out there with Spencer Denwitty. Then there’s Dwight Powell. Then there’s Naji Marshall. And it’s Washington in it to four. That’s the lineup in the game for Dallas. Now here’s Green. Shangon the screen. Five on the clock. Three-pointer. Brooks. Denwitty with a rebound. I think he’s gone completely dry. Nothing is hitting. And this is where you hope that he can find something easy so he can see the ball go through the net. It’s Denwitty on the wing covering. Denwitty gets the bucket. Well, just tremendous body control by Spencer. in Woodwy able to adjust to the defender’s contact. Vanle the pass to Shingun and here is Green defended by Thompson to the middle and it’s Thompson that time on the assist from Green. Green’s got three assists in the game. A little over a minute gone here in the second half. in when he passes to Washington. [Applause] Here’s Marshall from behind the ark and the three-pointer goes. Marshall’s got himself on the board with a three there. We think of Thompson as a beautifully gifted shooter, but make no mistake, he understands when and where to place the basketball when a teammate is open. And Shenu, it’s good on the foot and the Rockets lead by three. Just great positioning to get the rebound then get it back up. [Music] Powell outside. [Music] Pass to Thompson. Clay busting it up inside. Wow, what a start to this half. Three for three dictating the pace on the offense and then they’re rolling early. Brooks outside down low. Here’s Green. Nice assist and nice finish. Solid play all the way around and fighting his way through. Green not afraid in there with the big boys. And we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kent. He wants to review the game plan. One of the stories here. Alperon Shangon getting it done today. He’s just really a oneman wrecking crew down low. And with this timeout, they’ve got to make some adjustments cuz he’s been steady inside. [Applause] for defeat. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] Heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] up here. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] Once again, your detail crew. Give him a hand, man. [Applause] [Applause] Denwitty passes to Pal. Back to Denwitty to the inside. Here’s Thompson. Second shot opportunity. Oh, Clay takes the contact and finishes. 80% shooting to start the third. Four for five. Pass to Thompson. Thompson with a screen. Brooks drives in. Back to Thompson. Thompson with a steal for three. Denwitty. Thompson pulls it in. And so Thompson will bring it up for Houston. They lead by one. Green with the ball. Checked by Washington. And it’s Green missing. Dallas has gone one of two shooting from the perimeter since halftime. Marshall passes to Thompson. Now Denwitty Washington outside to the paint. Here’s Thompson. And the slam dunk by Thompson. Boy, you don’t see it often. Blake Thompson letting you know he can finish emphatically. [Applause] Brooks outside [Applause] and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. Yeah, you never want to let shots at the rim go uncontested. So far, he’s made all of his shots at the foul line, going four for four. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And he makes a first. [Applause] That one’s no good. Well, a little shaky from the line. And instead of putting him in front, he’s only able to tie it up. The Mavericks have gotten five of seven attempts in the third quarter. Washington outside. Denwitty with a screen on Thompson. Here’s Washington. Pass to Pal. Back to Washington. Ooh, Thompson with the block. Decent reach and solid instincts allowing Thompson to get a hand on him. Clock at four. And here’s Denwy from the arc. Rebounded by Green. The Rockets have gotten three of six shots to fall so far in the third on the wing. Thompson Shangon. A screen on Washington out to the wing. Shangon finds Brooks. Late clock. Houston’s got to hurry. Three-pointer. Van Vleet. They get it back. Changun no good. Dallas is gone. Only one of three from deep here in the third. A chance here to catch up with Ally from the sideline. Well, similarities in the games of Alen Shenun and Nicola Joic a couple years back. Joic suggested that Houston run their offense more through him and they have. Joic said that’s going to benefit the whole organization. He wants to pass and play for the team. They’ll move when the ball is in his hands. Brian, well, Joic would know. Thanks, Ally. Green with the ball now. Thompson defending and it goes out of bounds. That one off Green and you got to be in awe of incredible defensive efforts like this. And this is exactly why he’s out here in order to block shots in tight games like this. And Houston making a change here. E’s checked in. Tari E. They’ve done a great job of moving the ball tonight. The NBA keeping everybody involved keeps everyone engaged and it’s stolen by Van Vleet. Back comes Houston in transition and he lays it in off the breakaway. Van Vleet’s got five now. All right. Well, a look at how the hustle game has been going for Houston. You have to be a fan of the energy they played with on the defensive end. Active hands and feet and it’s come up big a few times for them. And you also have to love the way they’ve gotten out and run in transition. A ton of good chances tonight simply from Dean willing to run the floor. And the officials whistle a foul on the shot. The bucket is good and he’ll go to the line. That’ll put him in. Thompson on the line. PJ Washington picks one up. Show for Dallas. Christy comes in for Thompson and Williams is subbed in for Denwitty. [Applause] And what I like about Thompson along with the highlevel athleticism, he has a highlevel feel for the game. Powell outside to Christie outside. Williams over Van Vleet. Williams shot is good. fans lead with it. He’s got five outside Green outside. E [Applause] tips. How is exceptional at timing for blocks, rises up and sends it back. Edwards, he’s checked in for Washington. Number 20, Kesler Edwards. on the wing. Green just five on the clock. Pass to Shenun. Van Vleet outside. Lets the three fly. Good. And the assist goes to Shingun. Van Fleet’s got eight. Well, after netting one in the first half, that’s the second deep ball to go down for this guy. You know, Grant and Van Bleet, they’ve got a guy who’s been through everything in this league. Yeah, BA Van Bleet’s seen it all. He’s won a championship. He’s been in the All-Star game. He’s been on a last place team. But no wonder nothing seems to phase him. Here’s Christie. Still no points. Marshall, the shot no good. I’ll tell you, no matter what he does, he can’t find his rhythm. And you get the sense he’s starting to press a little bit. Pan Vleet the pass to Shenun and he got the whistle on the way up so he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. It goes on Dwight Powell. Yeah, Shingun’s aggressive style is what gets him here. This is his first trip to the free throw line tonight. Shooting two. [Music] The first one falls. Martin, he’s checked in for the Mavericks. Smith, he’s checked in for the Rockets. [Applause] And there’s the call on Tari E. That’s his first foul. Whit checked in for Shangon. Substitution on the corner. [Applause] Average trail by seven. [Music] Now here’s Williams. It’s Martin on the wing. Here’s the teardrop. E pulls it in. E’s got five rebounds tonight for Houston. They’ve gotten six of their first 12 shots to drop in his third. And a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. And I like to see this from Smith. Pushing the action. not just hanging around the perimeter. First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. Shooting two [Music] [Applause] and he knocks down the first one. You got to like how energetic Jabari Smith is. A young guy who is fired up and ready to prove to the entire league just how good he could be. [Applause] Off on that one. So he goes one out of two at the line. And Williams has got the ball here for the Dallas Mavericks. Trailing by eight. Here’s Christie. He’s scoreless. Martin with a screen on Vanley. Williams passes to Martin. Lays it up and banks it in. Keeping pace here. That’s an excellent move inside. Now here’s Green. Tight defense on him. Two minutes remaining in the third. Two minutes. 156 left in the third quarter. Pulls it from the top of the key. Boy, he flanks that one off the back iron and it falls. Green’s got four points now in the quarter. Yeah, there’s no quitting this guy. He just gives you great effort and he continues to give you great production. Williams against Vanle inside. Here’s Edwards and Edwards slams it in. And just a lack of fight right now on the defensive end, right? At least on that slam it was. That’s one way to let a team back in the game. Right. You can see on that possession, one side playing with a little desperation, the other side losing focus. Here’s Marshall. [Music] A minute four left to play in the third. Edwards against Smith. Edwards. The pass to Williams. Oh, nice finish from the low block. That one’s good. Outstanding pass on time and on target. Houston leading by four. Here’s Whitmore. Outside. Een puts up a three. Nails it from beyond the ark. Een’s got five points. They have hit the boards hard this half. Those second chance points are mounting up. Martin outside. [Applause] So it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the active shooting. Second personal foul. Dallas shooting their first foul shots of the night. Now at the line for your memories. Caleb Martin taking two shots. The first free throw is good. And the Mavericks making a change here. Jones is checked in. And the Rockets making a change here as well. Adams checked in for Van Vleet. Good. Good. Good job. He does not get the second one. I’ll tell you, they’re going to need more from this guy if they’re going to cut into this deficit. And the basket is good. He got it to go and he took the bump. So, a free throw coming up. An opportunity at a three-point play. 15 pound with more. One shot. One shot. [Applause] 24 seconds left in the third quarter. E against Martin. Pass to Jones. Outside Williams. Martin with a screen on Green. Williams with it. He’s picked up by Adams. Jones. The pass to Edwards. Williams from long range. Can’t hit that one. And so it’s Houston with a 9-point cushion at the end of the quarter. Getting lots of great looks, shooting it well. That’s why they’re up. We’ll be right back after this word. [Music] [Music] And it’s time now to bring you our State Farm assist of the game. And the winner today coming from an unlikely position. It’s the big fella with the sweetest pass of the day. Well, we have some elite passing big men in the NBA. And you love that skill. Wow. Fourth quarter action is upon us. Thanks as always for joining us. Mavericks trail by nine. So the Houston five right now. Smith and Shingun play together in the front court. Williams is out there with Cam Whitmore and it’s Een in at the three spot. Jones finds Martin. [Applause] Pass to Williams. lets it go from deep. He buries it from three. It’s like he needed that halftime break to gather himself. Now he’s starting to get his confidence back here. [Applause] [Music] Outside Whitmore [Applause] and he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up first. The officials were right on top of that one. Three shots. Shooting two. [Applause] First one falls for him. Tates checked in for Houston. [Applause] and he makes the first but misses the second. Mavericks trail by seven. Here’s Christie and the foul is called. He missed it so he’s got a couple of free throws coming his way. First team at the line for Dallas. Christie taking two shots. And he drops a first. And the Rockets making a change here. Holiday is checked in. [Applause] And so he makes both from the line. He’s making the most of every trip to the line, providing for his team. Outside Whitmore, 11 ft out. Jump shot is good that time. Absolutely ruthless. He’s not about to start showing mercy now. Well, when it’s closing time, he’s trying to lock the door. He’s been going all night. Jones with a screen on Holiday to the middle. Jones misses. The Rockets lead by seven inside. Here’s East and he battles for the ball. Gets the second chance bucket. Well, you have to be cognizant of where people are when the shot goes up. Defenders not blocking out in that instance. Williams against Holiday. Right side. Williams. Pass to Edwards. Now Williams. He’s covered by Holiday. Dallas needs to get off a shot. Here’s Christie. Good work defensively by Whitmore. Good job hitting the glass. They’re plus eight in rebounding. A chance to extend the lead to double digits, but it’s no good. outside Williams. [Applause] Now here’s Martin Whitmore defending. Holiday against Williams. Jones sets a screen. Jacks up a three. Rockets with a rebound. East’s got nine rebounds now. Holiday finds Smith. Little over two and a half minutes have passed here in the fourth to the paint. And there’s Shingun. That one’s good on the assist by Whitmore. Whitmore’s got three assists tonight. Mavericks trail by 11. Here’s Christie. It’s Edwards on the wing. Back to Martin. They still need this. And he makes no mistake. Slam dunk. I’ll tell you that vertical ability he has puts him in select company in NBA power. May not have great size, but boy, he plays bigger than it. Now here’s Whitmore. Oh, he’s found his rhythm. Seven for 10 and counting. Athleticism showing through from Whitmore. He doesn’t need much room at all to operate in close. Outside Williams pass to Christie. Williams on the wing. Fires the three. E pulls it in. E’s got double digit rebounds now in the game. And that one’s good. Whitmore. Whitmore’s got 10 points in just the second half. This run has been fueled by their Matador defense. Pass to Williams. Back to Martin. Here’s Christie. Whitmore defending. Christie passes to Williams over Holiday. Williams misses. They’ve shown the power inside. Their rebounding effort has been sensational. Whitmore and the shot is good on the assist by Holiday. Whitmore’s got nine points in the quarter. And what’s working here, each guy is willing to make the next pass. It’s Edwards on the wing down low. Oh, and he brings it down with a two-handed jam. use a strong finish to cut into that lead a little and left no doubt with that one. Grant [Music] Holiday against Williams. Pass to Whitmore for three. Mavericks with a rebound. Well, he had the defenses attention dropping two threes in the first half, but he hasn’t made one since. Now Edwards Martin outside. Jones with a screen on Shangon from 9 ft. Martin with the bucket. You can see it. He’s taking better shots and the results are coming because of it. And we’ve got a timeout called by Eme Udoka. He was quite emphatic, demanding the timeout. Clearly wanting to address strategy with his team. Please give a huge welcome to your team. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Yeah. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Applause] So, both teams changing it up here. And from the sideline, let’s catch up with Ally. Hey guys, during that last break, I heard Ema Udoka as he talked with the team. And they told the team, “Let’s keep doing what we’re doing. We’re up. Do not forget that.” They told their team to just relax, to have fun, and to finish this one out. We’ll see if they do, guys. Appreciate the report, Ally. Houston leading by 11. [Applause] Thompson outside. Back to Van Vleet. [Applause] Thompson against Washington. [Applause] It’s Thompson high post. Just four to shoot over Washington. And yep, it’s good. You know, inside is where Thompson excels and the concentration allowing him to finish there out to the right wing. Back to Denwitty. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. First personal foul. It goes on Fred Manle. Foul at the line for your batteries. Denwy. Two shots. And the first one at the line is good. Spencer Dwitty, one of those players that seems to have improved with every passing season and his numbers back that up. This guy just keeps getting better. hits both from the stripe [Applause] now. Van Vleet outside Green. [Applause] Nice D from Thompson. Average trail by 11. Watch out. Here’s Marshall. Pass to Denwitty. Washington outside. Pal finds Washington. Here’s Denwitty. And with that one, the deficit driven to single digits. Denwitty’s got four points this quarter. Well, Spencer Denwitty can make an impact in the painted area. He’s got size at the position. Back to Van Vleet. Pass to Brooks. [Applause] The three is up. Then Woody with a rebound. Well, this has not been his finest hour, but give your teammates some credit for doing the job of stepping in. And that one drops. And this has been fun to watch. I mean, they’ve managed to go on a run just when it looked like this might be over. Thompson outside. Bad lead against Inyle [Applause] left side. It doesn’t go for him. Excellent D there from Denwitty. pass to Washington. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. I think you have to admire the aggressiveness with which PJ Washington plays every single night. And let’s quickly check out the scoring breakdown here for Dallas. Well, they have owned the offensive perimeter throughout this game, finding lots of openings and turning them into big shots. They’ve also made a concerted effort to get the ball down low. Many of their points coming in that painted area tonight. That free throw no good. Well, for PJ Washington, it’s important he continue to establish himself as a floor spacer. This guy can really make threes. He hits the second from the line. And here’s Van Clee. He’ll bring it up for Houston. the biggest lead of the game, 15 points. Pow! With a steal and they’re on the break. Here’s Denwitty and up to Captain J. Well, Dwitty loves huge opportunities and he delivers there. Houston leading by four. [Applause] And here’s Vanle outside. Green to snap the cold streak. A nice execution inside from Green. Very important points. I mean, they’re trying to hang on to this lead now. They needed that. Green against Thompson and stolen by Green. [Applause] 121 left in the final quarter. They get the rebound. Shenun no good. Dallas is gone. One for three in the fourth quarter from Range. Thompson against Green. Thompson no good. Houston has gone 0 for two from outside here in the fourth quarter. Green in the post. He’s covered by Denwitty. And it’s Green missing and Dallas with possession. Six-point game and the foul on the shot. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. second person. Well, taking the initiative right there, Klay Thompson makes it very difficult to challenge without fouling. Taking two shots. Get He gets the first and that brings him within five. [Applause] Both free throws good from Thompson. And those were big shots at this point in the game. He can’t afford to leave any points at the line. And he commits the intentional foul. Second team foul. Here’s Van Vleet. and lead double team. Green for three. The shot that time not on target. He is too good a shooter, guys, to be left open like that. The defense just dodged a bullet there. Back to Marshall. Washington. A screen. Marshall passes to Denwitty. Six on the shot clock. Over Van Bleet. Here’s Marshall. Here’s the three. Rebound by Van Vleet and an intentional foul right there. Yeah, just a must foul situation to stop the 13 Fred Van Ble two shot. [Music] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. First free throw is good. And that puts him up five. [Applause] And so he drops them both and it’s a six-point ball game. All but over now. Those free throws help seal the deal. Timeout on the floor. Mavericks. 9 seconds left in the fourth quarter. From a coaching perspective, what are the keys to focus on here? They need to answer fast. Well, preferably a three, right? If there’s a clean look, take it. [Music] [Music] Oh, no. No. Sit down. Keep on dancing. Here we go. [Music] Way to go everyone. Let’s hear it. Give it up for yourself. 9 seconds left in the fourth quarter here. Oh, he drained it from downtown with a little bit too concerned about the ball going inside on the inbound play. They forgot to guard that perimeter and Dime Udoka has called timeout and a great call on his part. This is the time you want to be in sync right here. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And they stop the clock as soon as they can with the intentional foul. 14 shots. [Applause] And that hurts as he doesn’t get the first one to fall. Trying to focus now for the second. And he can’t get the second one to drop either. Coming up empty that time. And we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kidd. Critical moment here. He’s not taken any chances given the situation here. What sort of strategy needs to be top of mind? They should have a play prepared for this scenario. Little time. You need a three. Of course, the D will be guarding the line, but no one said it was going to be easy. [Applause] Heat up here. [Applause] Heat up here. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] and looking to even the score with a huge three. Greg, this is all about execution. Can you free a open man from the three-point line? That’s what it comes down to. Yeah, no choice but to foul in that situation. Although that’s not the guy you want to send to the people. [Applause] He hits the first one and that gives him a four-point cushion. and he hits both free throws here and it’s a five-point game. And so it’s Houston winning this one. Just a gutsy performance on the road. It really was. When this one was up in the air late, they showed how toughminded they are as a team. And that’ll do it folks for Ali Leforce, Doris Burke, and Grant Hill. This is Brian Anderson alongside our 2K Sports crew thanking you for watching. And let’s leave you with our player of the game, Alpernan Shenun. [Music]
