NEW DOOM The Dark Ages DLC – A Tragic Update
If something is absolutely true about Doom: The Dark Ages is that not only has it been exactly 6 months since the game came out, which is downright impossible, I refuse to believe we’re running out of time this damn fast, man, but also that we have entered the stage where the upcoming campaign DLC for this new Doom game is finally taking shape. And by the looks of it, this is going to be it software’s biggest expansion yet. Bigger than what the ancient gods was all the way back in late 2020 and early 2021. What? For the last couple of months, Hugo Martin, which is the Dark Ages game director, has been live streaming the entire game’s campaign, answering questions about Doom’s lore while giving little glimpses and teases about what we can expect in this campaign expansion. And in the past two weeks, my friends, Hugo has given us the biggest pieces of information about this new DLC we have received yet. Things that will greatly change how the game is played, how the story is experienced, and what exactly is going to happen in this next chapter of Doomgu’s War against the Legions of Hell. Are you ready? If you’re excited about this new DLC for the Dark Ages, would you kindly leave a huge like? Let’s get this video to 10,000 likes. it would mean a lot to me. Please be sure to let me know down below in the comments what’s the one thing you want the most for this DLC. Mine is pretty damn simple. A thick slab of iron too big to be called a sword. Why? Because I read and reply to every single one of your comments. And to this day, no one has been able to prove I don’t. But you can always try. Yesterday you said tomorrow, so just do it. By the way, I’m trying to reach 400,000 subscribers by the end of this year. So, if you haven’t already, please subscribe. With that being said, let’s sit down, grab Lucifer Spain, and dive straight back into hell. You know the drill. This video was sponsored by Gamer Subs. Ever since it was confirmed that Doomarks was going to receive a campaign expansion, I knew with every fiber of my being that we were going to get a new melee weapon for the Doomslayer. Not only was this true for the ancient gods part two with the sentinel hammer, but because the dark ga’s gameplay philosophy has mele combat as its backbone, getting a new melee weapon was more than confirmed even before the game came out. Yet, that doesn’t really matter. What does what this new weapon is going to be. Is it a great axe like the one King Novik wields in the campaign? Is it Commander Balen sent Hammer once again? or is it going to be the ultra great sword I’ve been begging it software for? Well, the answer to this question has been in our faces all this time, even before the game came out, and it was finally revealed just last week by Higo Martin himself. The word of the day that is for the DLC. Uhhuh. It It rhymes with steer. That’s it. That’s the word. Steer. At this point, it’s pretty obvious, my friends. In this new DLC for the Dark Ages, Doom Guy will steer towards the demons with his new lawnmower. And Mau, any inhuman son of a [ __ ] that stands against them. Jokes aside, the one thing that rhymes with the word steer in the context of Doom: The Dark Ages is spear, which makes a lot of sense. Before the game came out, Hugo Martin made it very clear that the philosophy behind the game’s mele combat was inspired by the movie 300. Specifically from this scene where Leonitis pushes through the enemy’s attack, pairing them with his shield and dealing fatal attacks with his spear. In the ancient gods, we were given commander Veilen sentinel hammer. And if we go by that tradition, there’s a high chance that we might use as spear in this expansion. Maybe Doom Guy grabbed the spear as a sort of trophy after ending Aszre’s life. Even if this is still not set in stone, there are a lot of other examples present in the base campaign that we can see. It might be the spear used by Night Sentinels of ancient times. It can also be the chain spear used by the Komodo or the chain spear found in Exaltia and many others we can see in the game’s concept illustrations. Yet, I would bet that Astre’s spear is the one. Using a demonic weapon to hunt and kill hell’s arch demon gods would be downright poetic. That or we’ll get something specifically crafted for the Doomslayer. The power gauntlet and flail were forged with Dungai in mind after all. However, the appearance of this spear doesn’t really matter. What does is how it’s going to affect the sandbox. A couple of months ago, Hugo mentioned that Doomg guys mobility options were going to change in this DLC. And now that we know that the new weapon is a spear, there are some things that come to mind. Spears are meant to be thrown. So, what if when we throw this spear wherever it lands, we have the ability to dash or teleport to its location, similar to Noctis’ warp strike in Final Fantasy 15 or Minato’s Hiashi nojutsu in Naruto. Not only that, but what if we can throw and impale the spear onto a demon, teleport to its location, and have a unique glorical animation for doing so? A man can dream. Giving us the ability to warp to the spear’s location would serve the game’s combat loop tremendously, as it’s giving us more ways to ripen and look the coolest while doing so, enhancing the power fantasy even further. Get me 20 of them. You know it’s soft is probably watching this video. So please let me know your thoughts about the spear and the abilities I just mentioned down below in the comments. You never know if your feedback might influence the man himself. I want to take this chance to ask all of you to follow me on Twitter and Instagram. I also respond to all messages and DMs over there. Back to the video. Hold your horses. All right. While I was editing this video, Hugo was live streaming once again like he always does every Thursday. And just for the sake of it, I was constantly typing spear teleport. Come on, Hugo on chat. Hugo saw that. And well, this is what he had to say. Midnight says, “Spear teleport Hugo, come on.” Interesting. Interesting. Interesting. I don’t know. I guess it’s confirmed. You be the judge. A couple of weeks ago, Hugo dropped the biggest lore bomb for this DLC. One that tells me that this expansion is going to be itself to biggest yet. One that will expand this DLC to at the very least six different levels. And one that will set the stage for the next Doom game, being that The Dark Ages has only one DLC planned. [ __ ] In this expansion, Merrick, who is Commander Balen’s son, will take center stage and have a very big influence in the narrative of the game’s DLC. But why and how? In the Dark Ages ending, we are told the Doomslayer has disappeared and has not been seen since Azreak was defeated. The reason behind it being that Doomg guy is now in hell in search of the high council, the six arch demon gods who answer only to Deva. In this ending, we are shown that this hunt for the arch demon gods is a solo mission. It’s Doomgai against the entirety of hell. But apparently at some point in this crusade, Merrick will make an appearance and aid the Doomslayer in this conflict. In the lore, Commander Veilen seems to be the last of his kind. a tribe of elite warriors who hold a significant amount of combat prowess. I mean, there’s a reason as to why Veilen is King Novik’s right-hand man after all. Yet, it is stated that Merrick, his son, is not only faster and far stronger than his father ever was in his prime, but also has a deep necessity to bring honor to his father’s legacy and prove his own worth. Because Doomg guy is now on a mission to end hell’s interdimensional threat for good by exterminating these demon gods. Merrick might feel the urge to take part in this conflict that will make history. Not only because it is the right thing to do, but because he wants his father’s name to be carved in the history books of Argentiner, becoming a legend. Yet those who know Doom’s history know that Merrick flew too close to the sun. The arch demon gods are masters of deceit and manipulation. They will use Merrick’s own vanity against them and set up a trap, one that Merrick will fall victim to, resulting in his death. This event will splinter Commander Veilen’s heart, opening up to corruption and will mark a before and after between this war against the demons of Inferno. When a living being is killed by the hands of any creature from hell, that being or person’s soul is marked for eternal damnation, meaning that no one who is killed by the demons can truly rest in peace. As that person’s soul will forever be stuck in the endless current of the undead, while his own flesh is repurposed to become an unwilling, mindless drones who follow their most basic instincts, which is to harm anyone who stands in their way. The arch demon gods know that commander Veilen knows about these facts and will use that information to further increase Veil and Spain and regret for his son’s soul as no parent should watch his own children die. I firmly believe that this DLC will end with the death of Merrick and the next game will tell the tale of how Commander Veilen was corrupted by the manipulative whispers of the remaining arch demons, if there are any, and how he will pretty much sell the keys to Argentur’s power and secrets in exchange for his son’s salvation. Something that will inevitably end with the birth of the icon of sin and the biggest betrayal of them all. one which will leave the last bastion of night sentinels alongside Doomg guy stranded in hell forever which will also mark the beginning of the Doom Slayer’s legend one which was told through the eyes of the demons with the Slayer’s testaments needless to say the Dark Ages is not the last Doom game and given how the lore has been expanding I’ll say that there’s at least three more Doom games coming our way. Another thing that Hugo has mentioned regarding the DLC is how the cinematics will be presented. One of the things I really disliked from the base game were definitely the cutscenes. They are not bad by any means, but I believe the storytelling of any Doom game should be told through the eyes of Doom guy like in Doom 2016 where pretty much the entire game was presented through his perspective or like a Doom Eternal where we get the combination of both. firstperson cutscenes for immersion and fixed camera shots for pure artistic vision. Yet, Doom: The Dark Ages went entirely with the latter and made me feel like Doom Guy was just another character instead of myself, which goes against the whole purpose of him not having a name, which is downright illegal. What have you done, you maniacs? However, Hugo has stated that the cutscenes in this new expansion will focus on immersion, which makes me believe that the story will be presented primarily in first person, which in my honest opinion is just better. Doom used to have this aura of mysticity and mystery behind it. And it was all thanks to the game’s presentation. To put it frankly, we do not need to be shown absolutely everything. And in the case of Doom, less is definitely more. And last, but certainly not least, we got some quality of life changes to the Dark Ages gameplay that were definitely needed. Now we can cycle through melee weapons and shield runes in real time, where before you had to pause the game, go into the menu, and change it manually, breaking the flow of combat and overall immersion. Not only that, but the Repatorium has overgone some changes as well. Now, it software has added three different presets with each one being a different difficulty. Increasing rounds have also been added as well. And you can now share your very own personalized hard mode experience with your friends via codes. And because of that, I’m going to create my very own preset. Call it the Midnight Booalo experience and see if you can beat it. I highly doubt you will. You got me. Needless to say, these are changes that were totally warranted, and I cannot wait to see what else it software adds to hard mode. Giving us bits and pieces of lore in the Repatorium by beating some sort of extremely hard challenge or Easter egg would be downright amazing. But a man can dream, right? But anyways, my friends, thank you so much for watching this video. I took the liberty to change things up a bit in the way I record, edit, and overall produce these videos. So, if you like this new additions, be sure to leave a huge like, a comment for the algorithm gods. Please just do it and use code midnight on gamer subs as well. Have an awesome day, my friends, and stay safe. Adios. Bye. Heat. Heat. Oh, heat, heat.
