War Sales lets players command powerful ships, engage in thrilling sea battles, and master maritime conquest. Embark on daring naval adventures with new mechanics, territories, and challenges. Customize your fleet, conquer settlements, and carve your legend on the high seas. Yes, guys, this is a DLC. It’s a 20 quid one. You can get it uh 10% off on Greyman Gaming. Uh links in the description, and it feels it does feel like an expansion uh to the to the game. It’s not like one of these cheap kind of DLCs that just give you, you know, sweet funny Adams. This is a It has a not so much a campaign, but a a naval tutorial with some u scripted missions. I started doing them this morning, but I wanted really to get into the naval action. So, I just set up a simple custom mission with ships and I ended up doing about another 20. Been playing it all afternoon. Um it’s a blast. An absolute They’ve nailed it. Absolutely nailed I mean when I say they’ve nailed it, you can fall off a ship in full plate armor and swim. But at the end of the day, it’s a game. You know, it wouldn’t be right, I think, if you sunk because if you’re like me, you’ll spend quite a bit of time in the water. I’ve I’ve been a bit overzealous and boarded ships, then find that I’m taking on way more than I can chew, and I’m backing off, defending myself, and I ended up uh numerous occasions either deliberately jumping overboard or backing off accidentally and falling in the drink and uh having to swim to the ship. you can get back on the ships climbing the cargo nets. And I like that because if it was realistic and you sunk with plate armor, it would be a bit too brutal. Another reason I like it is um one of my ships got totally overrun by two vessels, totally boarded. I jumped overboard and swam to one of my other ships, got on that and uh carried on fighting with another crew. It was great. I want to talk mainly about the custom missions because that’s all I’ve actually done to actually play this in the sandbox mode to get to the naval would would just take too long. It would just take way way too long. I don’t have time to do that. I mean, we all know what banner lords is like anyway, but so it’s it’s just like that. But what I will say is you get a new faction, the nodes who have new weapons, new armor, and obviously the ships. Everybody gets the ships anyway, but it expands the map. You can see them here. They’re right at the top of the map. So they are now the most northern uh faction. You do ship building, trading, and all that kind of stuff. Sail down rivers, harbors. The rivers have been expanded wider in the map as well, so you can fit fleets of ships coming down. Uh so yeah, if you’re playing the game as it is, the sandbox, you’re getting a whole new naval element to this, which looks fantastic. But custom battles, um that’s what I really want to talk about. You can set the time of day. You have four different options for the time of day. You can set the location, which doesn’t really matter that much. Although the the rivers do look cool, especially as the nodes, cuz that’s how they came in land uh in England uh down these uh rivers. So, it it does feel authentic. And the long boats look awesome as well. You can set how many uh ships you want in your fleet. I think eight’s the max, but you can tweak each ship. Um there’s upgrades. You see, when you’re playing the game in sandbox mode, uh you unlock upgrades for the ship to put ballistas on and all kinds of weapons. You can select uh how much of a crew you want on. Is it a full crewed ship? And you can even select the type of warriors that go on and the percentage of archers to melee, which is really really important as well. You can set all the enemy up exactly the same way as well. So you can custom, and this is what I’ve been doing like most of the afternoon is just customizing different types of battles, seeing uh who’s good and which ships is good. There’s a load of ships, tons of ships. And then getting into the game, it’s so easy. It you just literally start off in control mode. You can set your formations up first and then I just simply say engage the Borg and they all sail up and they’re away. They all the AI is quite decent. I mean, I did get rammed once off me own ship, but generally speaking, um, unless you’re playing on like a narrow river and everybody just gets tangled up, um, on the open seas, it’s it’s pretty good. The AI, they’ll ram and board the enemy. They’ll fire the catapults and it looks really spectacular on a nighttime when there’s a lot of people firing. When you set set a ship fire, it’s really really cool as well. A simple mouse click will switch between the the front gun and your actual um steering of the ship. But even better than that, while you’re on the front gun, you can still raise and lower the sails. Um, speed up and slow down and turn the ship. So, you can actually stay on the front gun for a good while before you need to evacuate it. Generally speaking, uh, because it doesn’t turn very far once you’ve rammed another ship, uh, you need to get off the gun or if they ram you, they will pretty much kill you and disable the gun as well. So, you have to be careful when you’re on the gun because you’re very, very vulnerable. If you want to board an enemy ship, it’s so cool. You can either press the R key, which I think that’s the default key, or maybe I’ve changed it, and your crew will automatically grab these hooks and throw them onto the other ship and pull and pull and pull till the ships come together. Then they’ll put like a little cargo net bridge and charge. I prefer to do it myself. It’s so much more immersive just grabbing the hook and just slinging it over, aiming for someone’s face so it kills them and then hits the deck. And then only men just pull the two ships together. and you charge over and it all hell breaks loose. And what you can what can happen as I alluded to earlier on is when you’re grappling another ship, another ship could come behind you, grapple you, and you can be getting boarded while you’re boarding them. The border becomes the board if you know and that happened to me and I had to abandon ship. It’s really intense the fighting as well. It’s a bit like when you’re uh doing a um a siege on a castle in in the original game. uh you you know once you get up onto the battlements and you’re fighting it’s it’s that narrow kind of gap as you’re going up the ladder where you’re most vulnerable because you can’t get many men in there. If you think you’re losing, you can just tell your guys to retreat. They’ll instantly try and get off the enemy ship and back onto yours and then you use an axe and you smash the uh the ropes to the keep the ships together and you can sometimes just get away. It’s really really cool. Very very uh frantic. It’s so spectacular though when the ships clash together. They can do huge ramming speeds and do massive damage to the ship and firing the ordinance. There’s lots of different type there’s there’s um like grapeshot, there’s flaming grapeshot, there’s iron cannonball things. It’s just all cool. Lots and lots of efforts been put into the naval combat and I love it. I really really do. I do suck at the combat. Um I’m still I haven’t played this since I played Kingdom Come Deliverance and I’m still programmed for Kingdom Come Deliverance. They are very similar, but um I found myself twirling away at the mouse like an ass at times. Uh but I still enjoyed it. So there you go, guys. It’s a DLC for Mountain Blade 2 Banner Lord. And for me, although it’s mixed on Steam, um I think a lot of them were because there was a lot of bugs in the tutorial, but they’ve been fixed apparently. There’s a patch dropped today. But for me, it’s definitely worth a buy.
