Medieval 3 CONFIRMED + Nagash/End Times DLC!

So, I think there’s a resounding oh [ __ ] going on in the Total War community at the moment after the 25th anniversary showcase that just dropped from CA. It’s an hour long. You can go and watch that if you want. If you want the TLDDR, that’s what we’re going to do here. And I’ll give my thoughts on it and I’ll be curious to hear yours. So, three big pieces of news coming away from this showcase. I don’t know which one to start with first. But, I guess we’ll start with the Warhammer stuff as it’s the most appropriate here. As you probably guessed from the title and maybe the teaser the other day, Nagash is coming with a Lord of the End Times DLC for Total War Warhammer 3. So, all of you Nagash fans, I know there’s lots of you. I hear Nagash’s name mentioned a lot when people talk about DLC’s and they’re hopeful and well, it’s coming, boys. So, all you vampire fans will no doubt be excited for this. But it’s not just him coming with this Lords of the End Times DLC. There is going to be three other legendary lords and a free LC one. So, five in total with Nash. Now, I don’t claim to be any kind of lore expert, so I have no idea who they might be. I don’t really know that much about the end times in all honesty. You can tell me in the comments who you think it might be, and I can learn something. Now, there was a lot that was mentioned in the showcase, so I’m just going to rattle it off bullet point style. These lords will have law-heavy narrative style campaigns to them. In terms of Nagash, he will come with his own kind of corruption that will spread as he gains power. He’s going to be flying around in a floating pyramid and looking for books, the [ __ ] nerd. And it sounds like his corruption will change the world permanently as well. So, it’s not even like temporary and you can reverse it, although it sounds like there might be some ways, albeit quite difficult to do perhaps. There’s also going to be what sounds like kind of weather events like meteor showers or volcanoes going off and that can change the map as well. And while some of that will be random world happenings, you’ll also be able to potentially control and manipulate and make use of those things in your own way, which also can be reflected in new battle maps that are coming as well. So, it might be something like the weather system we saw in Pharaoh. And with Nash being the big bone daddy of the undead, he can unite them all. So you essentially get to control potentially Tomb King’s, Vampire Coast, and Vampire Counts all under one faction of Nagash. You’ll be able to tempt the legendary lords away from their factions to join you as Nash, and that will give them certain powers and new mounts and such. So pretty crazy. I guess there’s going to be some kind of dilemma there. You can choose maybe not to if you’re playing as one of those factions. Whether that’s going to have repercussions for you is another question, of course. There was also mention of this chap, Wallak Harkon, a new legendary lord for the vampire counts, a blood knight. There’s also some new units for the tomb kings, maybe other factions as well. Nagash is going to have his own unique units, too. The Naga Shizar settlement will no doubt become a proper unique settlement as well. So, there’s a lot coming and that’s just for Nagash. Not even the other three legendary lords in this Lord of the End Times DLC. So, there’s going to be a lot. And alongside this, Archon is also going to get some love to be fitting with the end times. Of course, he’s going to have his own narrative new campaign. He’s going to be updated visually, so he’s going to be getting a lot of love alongside this. What’s also very cool is that they’re finally going to be bringing the realms from the realms of chaos campaign into immortal empires. So, the Slenesh realm, corn realm, etc. So, you’ll be able to take the fight to the various chaos gods in there if you want to. And what else have we got? Nash is going to have his own lore of magic, obviously. Will they be more powerful than the regular spells of the game? If you’re a law or tabletop nerd, maybe you know, because I believe it’s based on the tabletop. So, whatever spells he’s got there, let me know in the comments. I’m curious. And just a couple of other things to note if you’re wondering, well, this is the End Times DLC. Does this mean it’s the end of Warhammer 3? Is this the last DLC? Are they winding down to stop making content for it? No. No. This is just the end times DLC. It’s a certain part of the game. After that, there will be more DLCs and stuff depending on, I guess, how much we keep buying them. What’s also cool is that you’ll be able to play Warhammer 3 even if you don’t own it. If you own Warhammer 1 or Warhammer 2, you’ll be able to play Immortal Empires with the lords that you have from those games. So, if you only own base game Warhammer 1, well, you’ll still be able to play Immortal Empires with the lords from that base game. So, that’s Carl Frans, Grimgore, Manfred, and Thor Grim, I think. Maybe some other ones there as well, like Belazar. So, that’s very cool. That’ll get more players into the game. But yeah, there we go. A lot of new stuff coming with this DLC that’s supposed to come in summer next year, 2026. Sounds like it’s really going to shake up the Immortal Empire’s game because, let’s be honest, it has become kind of a bit stale. We are just getting new campaigns with new mechanics, which is cool, but they only last so long before we’re kind of back to the same old thing again. There have been some cool additions along the way, like unusual locations to mix things up. But it sounds like this is really going to mix things up and changing the land quite significantly with the corruption and the different events permanently as well. So, you won’t be able to reverse it. The world is going to change. That’s pretty cool and exciting. Is Nagash going to be like a super overpowered legendary lord? That’s what I’m curious of. How am I going to fight him one-on-one with Grimgore, for example? Surely he’s more powerful than the everyday legendary lord. So that’ll be curious to see how that implementation works. But yeah, super cool mechanic. Super excited to see what other lords are going to come with this. And I think the biggest thing that this DLC is going to bring is a lot of satisfaction for people who maybe weren’t happy with the end times in the lore and how it happened and what happened and how it went down. From what I understand, the writing wasn’t great. A lot of people did not like how the end times went. And this is your opportunity to rewrite the end times essentially and have it go down how you’d like to see it go down. So yeah, sounds like a great way to shake up Immortal Empires to bring something really new and different to the game. Provided, of course, that it all works well and properly and it’s not super buggy and there’s no other big glaring issues with the game. It should be pretty [ __ ] great. So, I for one am very excited for the DLC and to see what it has to fully offer. Sounds like it’s going to be a great future for Total War Warhammer. I think it’s probably safe to assume that this will be like an option to toggle on at the start of your campaign as well. Do you want the end times to come? Do you want Nagash to ruin your campaign and Archon to ruin your campaign or do you not? So, you’ll be able to turn it off. It’s not like we’re going to be forced into this. I’m going to assume anyway. But some stuff like the chaos realms being there would still make sense even if it’s not the end times. That would be cool to still see that. And these weather events and volcanoes and meteor showers and stuff potentially a lot of cool stuff to change the game even without the end times. Okay. In other news, lesser news, but still pretty exciting. There is a new engine coming for the future Total War games. Warcore, as it’s called, is going to upgrade the visuals, make everything look a little more realistic, better lighting, better animations, all the obvious things that a new engine would bring. And most notably, let’s hope it actually is true, the AI will be improved. Both battle AI and campaign AI will be better. There’s going to be dynamic destruction, so buildings will be able to be destroyed in different ways, not just a single explosion animation or something. And that’s something you can use to your advantage, or the enemy could potentially use to their advantage. The AI will know how to do that, apparently. improvements to blood and gore and dismemberment and stuff like that. So, just sounding like a real upgrade for Total War in all aspects of the visual game. So, that sounds really great. The AI is the big thing though for me. I think I really want to see the AI actually get better. Like, they say it’ll get better, but do we believe it? I think we’ll believe it when we see it, right? But still very exciting all of this. You’ve got about a year, I’m going to guess, until you’re going to need a new GPU, so start saving. Probably a CPU as well. So, good luck with that one. But what was also suddenly mentioned, which is quite big, is also that they’re going to be bringing future Total War games to console. Now, I know, alarm bells, right? They’re going to be dumbing the game down for the dummy console players. Ah, [ __ ] Let’s hope that’s not the case. They did say they’re going to maintain complexity. They’re not looking to dumb it down or anything. So, hopefully that’s true. And Total War stays, as it always has been, pretty complex. Now, to the big one, then. I can hardly believe it myself. Total War Medieval 3 is a coming. I myself are very excited for this. I’m sure many other people will be as well. This is going to be pretty damn huge. Hopefully, it’ll be just as amazing as we can all imagine it to be, but they got to get it right. Let’s hope it is actually a Total War historical title. I don’t want to see Richard the Lionhe Heart jewel wielding two swords and killing 300 men and then Jonavar comes in and drops a burning head on the front line of [ __ ] treemen. So, let’s hope it stays grounded, stays realistic, stays historical. I don’t want any of that stuff. I love fantasy. We’ve tried it with other games. We tried three kingdoms. We tried having both in Troy. there was a combo and them both. We don’t need both. Just give us one and do it [ __ ] well. And hopefully they’ve learned a lot. I think they’ve learned a lot from Total War Warhammer with the various things they’ve done and tried with that. They’re going to have hopefully learned a lot from Pharaoh, although Pharaoh did have some good campaign mechanics and stuff. It did have some good ideas, but unfortunately the setting and stuff was a bit bland. Three Kingdoms as well had its good points, the diplomacy system and such. So, they’ve got a lot of strong experience to pull from to get this right. Hopefully all the positives of all the previous Total War games for the past 10 years will come together to make Medieval 3 something special and hopefully not special in the way of a Rome 2 release special or a Warhammer 3 release special where the game is a bit of a mess and it takes about a year for it actually to get where it should have been at release. So yeah, I think they have the potential to really win back a lot of people that maybe lost faith in Total Wars historical titles over the years. They just got to get it right. In terms of the details that they gave about the game in the showcase, there wasn’t a lot there. They were quite vague about a lot of things, but they sound like they’re trying to make the most authentic game possible with attention to details, which is pretty important for me. And they mentioned recruitment briefly, and it sounds like they’re going to make it more like medieval 2, where you have to recruit a bunch of men from a town and then take them to your army, and they won’t just pop up out of nowhere like they do in the modern Total War games. So hopefully, anyway, that’s how it’ll be, and the soldiers will come out of the population of your towns and stuff like that. It’s going to be set in the high to late medieval period, so 12th to 15th centuryish. There’s mention of the Holy Roman Empire, Mongols, Mamlooks, Ottoman Empire. Sadly though, they did say that France was Sadly though, they did say that France was going to be in the game. Sadly though, they did say that France was going to be in the game. I can’t finish the sentence. Damn it. Sadly though, they did say that France was going to be in the game. So, that is disappointing. But they did say the game is all about rewriting history. So, I guess I can just exterminate the French from existence. That was a bit strong. I’m sorry, French. I’m sorry. I don’t mean it. I’m lying. In terms of visuals for the game, there’s not a lot outside of the artwork. Although this is looking pretty reminiscent of a campaign map. A little town there, maybe a little flag there next to the town, maybe an army or that looks kind of like a bishop or something. But yeah, largely overall it’s sounding like medieval 2 or just history. You’ve got different ideas, different cultures all mashing together that’s causing conflict and blah blah blah. Sounding pretty great overall. Let’s just hope it maintains some complexity. If this is going to be on console, we don’t want it dumbed down. We don’t want battles dumb down. We don’t want campaign mechanics dumbed down. Hopefully, it’s a bit more complex than Warhammer generally is. More like the older Total Wars. In battles, I want to see units have stances and formations. I look forward to having more tidy battles again, not with Warhammer where everything just gets smashed flying all over the place and a monster just charging through your front line like it’s not even there, and then a magic spell blowing your men all over the place. I look forward to a bit more order with these kind of historical battles. So, overall, very exciting times for Total War ahead. Whether you’re a fantasy Warhammer fan or a historical fan, you’ve got something to look forward to. But maybe you noticed, hey, they said they were going to tell us about the next fantasy title, but they haven’t in this showcase. Where the hell is it? Well, on December 11th at the Game Awards, that’s where we’re going to find out what the hell that is. And you know, it’s got to be 40K right at this point. That’s what it has to be. There’s a lot of signs kind of pointing towards that. The only other option might be Star Wars, but Sigmar knows that franchise has taken a dive in recent history. So, here’s hoping it’s 40K, and if it is, we’ve got Medieval 3, we got 40K, we got Lord of the End Times. I don’t think there’s anything we could ask for after that. And the future of Total War, just like your mom, is looking pretty damn tasty. I hope you’ve enjoyed this. Thanks for watching. Do let me know what you think below. I’ll see you in the future.
