deleting your steam account should be way harder, like you should have to schedule a zoom call with gabe and explain to him why you want to delete it. hell, schedule a court date

They must ask you like 10 times after that and at least make you retype password and submit a blood sample right ???

    3. Dude this started giving me anxiety!! Oh shit all my money will be gone! What if my account gets hacked and the guy tries to delete the account, how does that work?

    4. I once wake up to a bug where it say that my account didn’t exist. lmao.

i was logged out and my profile all gone. i almost had a heart attack it was very traumatic 20 min. to this day i don’t know what happen and i don’t want to know.

There needs to be a four step verification even asking you when you took a certain screenshot 😭

We need to tell them to update their security for deleting your account. Like actually make it a four-step verification or something. Or at least be able to find a way to recover the account after it’s deleted in like a backup backup thing

    7. I hope they have 10 Confirmation tab window asking are you sure 10 times, before proceeding for the deletion.

    8. I had a friend whos ex use to live with him, they broke up and she went onto his steam account and hit this exact same button….

Dude had like 4k in games spent, an account that was like 10 years old at the time and this was back in like 2017.

He literally stopped playing video games after that happened. I think it gives him PTSD (probably WAY to strong over a word to use, Anxiety is probably the better word) to even think about gaming anymore.

I remember this happening because i was at his house with a bunch of other friends hanging outside smoking then she comes out with her stuf and just got in her friends car and left. We went inside, i ended up leaving before he got onto his PC to see what had happened but he texted me and you could feel it through the phone how defeated and depressed he was that someone would do that simply because they decided they didnt wanna be with someone anymore.

I core memory i’ll never forget.

    9. The fear that in one unintentional click or having you 5 year old relative mess around your computer and can completely erase a hundred thousands of hours and X¹⁰⁰ of money is always there.

    10. Even if you accidentally click it then its not instant as it gives you 30 days before its deleted.

    11. I remember an old story from years ago where this guy had found his girlfriend deleted his Steam account because they were fighting and the customer support easily reinstated it.

    12. Wouldn’t be so terrifying if you owned the games you bought and could have access to them without the Steam account.

It’s wild how a simple bug can make you confront the sheer amount of stuff you’d lose. They really should make the actual deletion process require a notarized letter or something.

    14. When I was installing Linux for the first time, I prepared some space on hdd for it.
It asked me if I wanted to reformat hdd for linux partitions. I was sure that it will warn me in case if **all** existing partitions need to be deleted…

      It didn’t…

All 200gb of… music… was deleted. It was around 2005, internet was not so developed, so the loss was quite painful.

So, i have PTSD now and never press buttons which potentially may lead to irrecoverable consequences.

    15. If we actually owned the games when we bought them this button wouldn’t be so scary….

    16. Delete button: *exists*

People: *getting anxious over imagining a highly unlikely scenario in which they click the button and all the subsequent extra confirmation pop-ups by accident somehow*

      Yes, I am people

    17. I did it once after some devastating life events left me feeling like I should quit gaming all together. Flash forward like 1 month and ever since then probably my biggest regret.

Jesus… My account got hacked a few years ago… Thank god they didn’t delete it for whatever reason

This right being granted to you for every service (EU w) is both a blessing and a curse. Especially the services that just go “oh, are you sure? (y/n). Okay then, *processes 3 secs*, everything is gone now, forever, bye!”
