Back in 2016 my older brother gave me his fat Xbox One with a Kinect, and i barely used it because i found it awful but today i decided to hook it up and see how it aged (horribly i predict)
Got it free a few years ago and sold it to CeX for £6 and both a copy of Guardians of the Galaxy for it.
Still have the Kinect for my Xbox 360, just never had anything that used Kinect 2.

I just miss voice commands to pause and play movies and shows. My controller would turn off and be across the room.

I personally thought it was a pretty cool tech. It had potential. Some games used it in cool ways. Like if you have it on while playing Alien: Isolation. The game can pick up the noise from the player. So, if you make any loud noise. The Xenomorph can hear you and track you down.
I saw it again last week when I was visiting my mom in the hospital. I looked up and saw that the hospital had the Kinect installed as cameras. I guess Microsoft sold all of the left over Kinects to the medical industry.. lol

I never got one for the Xbox One but I still have one for the Xbox 360. I used to use it to control Netflix and for Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures.
It’s cool to me that the Kinect had other applications where it got used in hospitals.

I was at an auto show recently and I think they had a tech demo with a Kinect setup for scanning you into the world. Cool idea bad execution from Microsoft

Wasnt there a horror game that used the kinect to detect how loud you were? And if youd yell things would start chasing you?

I didn’t hate voice commands for Xbox 🤷🏻♂️

That thing was cool. One of my friends had that Michael Jackson game. We teamed up against his sister and her husband and my friend did all the dance moves and I knew all the lyrics. We dominated LOL

They still make them but they’re primarily used in medical settings. In 2023 I had in-hospital physical therapy at a University hospital and they had one. I asked them about it and they said they got it from Microsoft’s medical division.

Make sure if you play any multiplayer games to keep your tv volume low so people can’t yell Xbox turn off and bone you

I honestly can’t believe I paid money for the Kinect. They literally did nothing with it.

I’m still sad that all of the best Kinect games are stuck on the 360 and not made backwards compatible. The much more accurate XB1 Kinect would have made some of those games more enjoyable.
Kinect remains to be the best way to play dancing games, and created a couple of interesting puzzle ones too.
Plus it adds a whole level of immersion to Child of Eden.

I still dislike the decision to make it not usable with the Series X. I used voice commands all the time, and it was nice walking into my room and turning on my Xbox without touching anything

I just wish the xbo kinetic worked with the series x/s. I really miss saying xbox on, and having it turn on all my stuff

Honestly there’s a few games that make good use of the voice commands, spells in Skyrim, commands in mass effect 3(maybe 2?) I forget which others but it was so helpful in those

A tip for repurposing it: With an adapter you can hook it up to a Windows 11 system and use it as a face unlock camera. It’s also a pretty good webcam and good mic, too.

Have mine attached to my PC hooked up via an adapter from eBay. It’s a great webcam and supports Windows Hello.
