This has been a long lasting debate among the community. In my honest opinion, it's the n3ds. The SNES buttons, better pixel density and the matte finish make me prefer it over the XL. Having the ability to swap between faceplates is also a game changer. Which system do you prefer?

    1. Had both and much prefer the N3DS. Echoing most of your points and adding that its weight feels better specially when playing stylus heavy games.

If you travel alot and want something compact, New 3DS, has lasted me ages and barring thumb stick rubber has held up since release. Its modded and cloned from my authentic account to. Also easier to shell swap and great for stylus heavy games like sushi striker.

If your sticking closer to home (Outside of maybe work and camping) the XL is your ticket. Larger screen, longer and customizable battery life make it perfect for couch play. Just sit and enjoy. Stuff like zelda and Rune factory are more comfortable here.

    3. I’ve got the New 3DSXL and I tell you this: **go with the regular New 3DS.**

The XL is too large to be pocketable and its screen is wobbly. I know they did it to protect the hing, but it’s very annoying.

    4. The smaller one. I know for many people the larger one is more comfortable but as someone with small hands the opposite is true for me.

I really want to like the small n3DS more. For the pixel density, the pocketability, and of course the faceplates. I fucking love faceplates – I have a small collection of them and even a CIB Pokemon Anniversary edition n3DS.

And it’s a great console, but I do think the XL is just better. Not because it’s any more comfortable, frankly all DS are just uncomfortable imo, but just for the bigger screens. It makes the games so much more immersive.

    6. They’re pretty much equals in my book. If I could only own one, it’d be small n3DS.

The XL has bigger screens as the obvious selling point, but the little one fits better in a pocket, faceplates are pretty neat, and is less straining to hold for long gameplay sessions – I think this is more or less a “me” problem, but the XL size consoles always fuck the circulation in my hands up within 15-30 minutes of gameplay and they start going numb – starts low in pinky and moves up through ring finger; once it gets to the ring finger I practically have to put it down for at least 5-10 minute break.

I think I have weird arthritis, carpal tunnel, etc. shit going on. Another specific issue I’ve noticed is when I play Guitar Hero on Expert, I have to crack both of my wrists (and usually some fingers) every song or two.

The only thing I hate about the New 3DS is that why is the cartridge slot on the bottom of the New 3DS and not on top of the New 3DS that’s just weird to me??

      how big are you/your hands?

i have both and i prefer the xl but the n3ds is a lot easier to carry in a pocket. the faceplate thing is cool as fuck too if you can find some good faceplates

you cant go wrong either way tbh. theyre both great systems and really well built

    9. I did love the standard one when I had it. But I couldn’t not get the Metroid XL model, and didn’t really have the financial means to keep both at the time.
