I gotta say the placement of the + and – buttons on the prototype are something I hadn’t noticed were so awkward until it was shown side to side with the finalized version. Wild!

    2. Update: I almost got it to pair. I swapped the antenna with a retail one and instead of timing out it just failed after about 20 seconds. It did attempt to connect because the Wii U prompted me to update the tablet instead of simply doing nothing.

    3. Tbh I never realized it was a prototype, I just thought the marketing team got something VERY wrong (other than the entire campaign)

I’ve always wondered why the black bar is around the camera. It sticks out like a sore thumb

    5. You’re the man for sharing all this with the community. 😎

So cool to see new HD photos of this after all this time. ✨

Super interesting that L and R are the triggers whereas ZL/ZR are the bumpers (GameCube style) even tho the Wii itself did the opposite with its Classic Controller (and of course the final retail Wii U GamePad followed suit)

Would you be willing to 3D scan the enclosure of the unit? The circle pads are 100% identical to the 3Ds ones just larger. I have taken apart an earlier prototype of these and posted them here before.

Wait is this real or official from nintendo?

I wonder how the prototype console in real life looks like.

    8. that is so interesting. I remember seeing that in a couple of adverts/commercials and wondered if it was a refresh

    9. Its crazy to see this prototype. But its very interesting that the screen is bigger than the end product

    10. Left handed people would have loved this. Also why would they swap the ZL/L and ZR/R locations from the Wii classic controller pro

    11. I wanna know why they switched the triggers and shoulders in the final version. I always hated that the shoulder buttons were the primary L and R inputs in most games. They’re by FAR the less comfortable set to use. I think they had the right idea with that on the prototype.

I forget this has circle pads too. The circle pad was good for the 3DS but I feel would have caused some control issues on a big console.
