I trust ShiftUp. AI isn’t bad in itself – I’ll make a judgment when I see the results.

AI is a tool like any other we have created so far.

Can’t wait for SB2 and the access media to lose their minds for the third time.

The guy has been openly a fan of AI for years. People are only concerned *now* because the internet is telling them to be.

Every dev will eventually start using GenAI. That sounds disappointing at the moment, but it all comes down to how it is utilized. Games development isn’t getting any cheaper, and neither is gaming as a hobby in general. Unless you want a single video game to start costing over $100, maybe wait and see how it is used before judging too hard prematurely. Either way, I do wish AI never would have been a thing in my lifetime.

    5. Yeah I kinda don’t care, like until they show they’re using it in less than **stellar** ways, I won’t have issue, if it’s being used a tool like any other tool they use then that’s okay, of course only if it doesn’t replace jobs. I’d say using ai to visualize a scene or character and redrawing it is okay with enough changes.

Really in the gotcha market I guess. All those characters look like that ai are style. Either way I dont like it either.

If the game is good, I couldn’t care less how they make it. Just give me a good game and I’ll give you money. Use whatever tools you want 👍

Hopefully he realizes using it makes it unaffordable for the consumer to buy his future products.

    9. Well I hope the game is consistent in terms of the characters and world building. Hoping the quality isn’t worse than SB1

Edit: I really don’t know if this is a good thing or bad thing

    10. It is what it is. At the end what matters is the quality of the games. You can protest against AI but sooner or later everybody will utilize it. You can’t get stuck in the past with inferior technology.

    11. I’ma be real with you, I don’t care what they use so long as the end product is good.

Lucky for me, in most cases, unethical practices tend to lead to bad games

AI has been in use for game development for over a decade but since Sam Altman got popular you and people like you who don’t understand computers shudder in fear at the name.

same prices for games, development cost ballooning. using AI for game development is inevitable, the benefits are just too good to pass up, saves dev time and manpower? it just makes sense.

So what happens when all those 1000 Chinese people use AI? You’ll be in the same place, but now a percentage of people might not play your game because of their aversion to AI xD You can’t compete with China’s man power.

    15. Arc Raiders uses ai too. Normal/casuals don’t care as long as the end product is good/fun.

The conversation around AI and game development is so beyond braindead among the larger gaming audience non of you have ever made a game none of you have ever used AI for a job there is so much tedious insanely repetitive work that AI will help with and most studios can’t hire 100 people for every one the largest cost of making games is labor and is almost always the restriction as well as often when a game studio scales up to those crazy multiple hundreds if not thousands of people the game ends up feeling incredibly disconnected and a lack of vision just let people work and if it has an AI tag on steam if it’s not for you fine but 99% of people don’t care how the pie is made they only care about the end product I’m not talking for gen AI for art I’m talking about the back end engineering and programming this will help small studios achieve the AA to AAA status
