    1. These CEOs have all the money they need. The investors have all the money they need… they just like messing with peoples life’s when those people don’t have the money they need..

    2. Garbage company with a garbage CEO.

He doesn’t even care about the actual Gamestop business anymore and treats employees like dirt. It’s all about hoarding the billions that he’s gotten from the memestock cult by selling new shares to them. Never actually *earned* any of that money whatsoever.

That $35b payday is also a wild fantasy. The CEO idolizes Musk so badly. lol

    3. For those who didn’t read the article: the CEO only gets paid if he meets performance goals… which are absolutely insane. Meaning, in all likelihood, they just fired a bunch of people for no real benefit.

Wasn’t he acting as CEO for free for a few years while turning the company back to profitable? He’s also the guy from chewy so closing a few hundred less profitable locations is in line with steering towards online focused. Wild that GameStop still gets stray hate after cleaning itself up like it has been

I stopped shopping there like half a decade ago when it started coming off to me that they were treating games like an afterthought over their collectibles/figures/etc.

    6. I’m tired of everything being run by wanting to please shareholders. Fuck shareholders. Fuck their ever growing greed. Fuck capitalism too while we’re at it…

    7. Can confirm; working at a closing store. They gave 5 days notice and we all get laid off 🙃

Yeah the one down the street from me just closed today. Was totally out of the blue

    9. I was emailed the other week notifying my “local” GameStop (two towns away) was closing. Now there’s only one store within 30 miles of me. As someone who still buys physical and trades in, this is infuriating. I hate preordering online because it takes days after launch to get it in the mail.

    10. GameStop used to have a 5$ in store certificate every month as a pro gamer. I would go in and add 5$ and buy a 10$ PlayStation gift card. Then two years ago they changed so that 5$ certificate cannot apply to gift cards. I’ve never renewed my membership since

The one in my town has been open for as long as I can remember and they’re closing it down. Closest one is 20-30 minutes from me. Sigh

I received a $10 GameStop voucher from the recent class action lawsuit. Tried to buy something online, was told it could only be used in store. Go to the store to buy a PSN card, was told I can’t use it to buy a gift card lol. Asked if I could pre order resident evil 9 steel book, was told they were out of stock. Lol.

    13. As much as I hate seeing people lose jobs I am glad that GS is losing more opportunities to exploit workers and customers make money. Company is literally cancer and needs to go out of business.

    14. Yea I dint even realize mine was gone. Went to the mall and the GameStop was now a very shady clothing and shoe store operated by a very sweaty man in a white tank top. He said he sold sneakers too and had none out to see just a real shithole of a store.

    15. ive already had the two closest gamestops close near me in the past 10 years. got an email earlier this week saying the next closest gamestop is now closing the end of next week. there’s only one gamestop near me now thats in a half hours drive. at this rate, there wont be anymore gamestops left around me to even go to. its more shocking because i live in a pretty big metropolitan area.

i havent been going there much in the past few years anyways, but its more like the end of an era. as a kid, i looovvveeeedddd going to gamestop. i check out all the video games there before finally choosing the one i went there for that day. the past few times ive been there, about a third of the store has actual video games in it. the rest are trading cards, tshirts, and other miscellaneous related merch. just feels like a shell of what the store use to be. i know people arent buying as much physical video games anymore (i know im not), but its still sad to see what the store has to do in order to survive.

    16. The store in the mall near me has been dead and empty for years, even before the mall started to die. The last time I went in was maybe 4 years ago and struck me more as a second hand shop. I wonder if this is going to be one of the stores they’ll be closing.

    17. They closed my local gamestop and the next closest one went out a few years ago.. I dunno even where the nearest one is now.. maybe the mall? Sucks. I just like hanging out there, finding fellow nerds.

6 stores in think is what the store associate said today when i was in there just closed in the state of Michigan

    19. I don’t know if you can “cut costs” your way into increasing your market cap by 1,000%.

I live in Nashville. We had a GREAT GameStop that was within 5 miles of 4 universities. The employees to there were fucking awesome.

That store closed in 2018. Now there’s one way out on the west side and in the burbs. Fucking sucks.
