The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered sold just over a million copies on PS5, but 50% of gamers played just 15 hours before quitting

    1. Is that not normal? A lot of games have really low playtimes compared to the number of people who bought/played it. If you look at the trophy data for most games, a lot of people don’t even make it to the first checkpoint trophy.

    2. It launched how it originally did- terrible state and still is since released but hey it’s Bethesda we expect it

For me it is because it stopped working on my PS5 pro. Anytime I try to play it, the game crashes as I get to the main menu. I have seen other people online have the same problem. That might have something to do with the low completion rate.

Playing 15 hours of any game is a big time commitment. Seems reasonable to me to stop after that long, but I don’t have nearly the same amount of time to play games like I did when I was as a kid.

Well yea. It played like shit. The patches since then have improved things a little bit but so many games have come out to the point that it’s been backlogged for me.

At least when Bethesda was saying they’d take the shadow drop approach again for their next release that I know to steer clear and to wait a year before considering whatever it is.

    6. I played about 12 hours on my pro and decided to put it down until they made any attempt to fix performance. Still waiting.

    7. Everyone slowly coming round to realise Bethesda game design has not held up and largely worked by being technically impressive for the time. It is now not impressive and so all the terrible underlying design rises up.

    8. To the snarky people in the comments, that is above average for any single player title.

(That said, my excitement for this remaster has been replaced by more adoration for the original’s art style, colors, and upscaled performance on modern consoles.)

Sounds like me Ill play it for like an hour then get bored and play something else. I love skyrim though have put hundreds of hours into it and got the platinum

    10. I never got back around to it. I started it and E33 since they came out around the same time.

    11. If you just do the main quest you could beat the game in 15 hours no problem. But hey its more fun to stir people up. Everybody is hater these days.

    12. Well the performance is brutal on ps5 I got it when it originally came out as I loved the game when I was younger. However I could barely play for 2 hours before I was completely fed up with the performance. I also have Xbox game pass and didn’t know it had dropped on there so $60 wasted. But it ran so much better in PC it’s a night and day difference. Completely unfair to console players to have to deal with such a poorly optimized console version though.

Think I spent 50 or 60 hours to get the plat. I really enjoyed what the did with this game.

    14. The cloud save system is borked. I began on my gaming PC but wanted to transfer to my Steam Deck. My save didn’t show up so I moved on.

    15. I’ve been having a blast. The quest design is refreshing, each side quest has a unique twist.

    16. I played for 15 hours before my save became an infinite loop of crashing. Couldnt finish it.

    17. So, this was kinda almost me. I bought the game in the moment of the shadow drop hype. I am nostalgic for Oblivion and was pretty excited about the Remastered version. It’s still got charm and everything, but like gameplay wise it feels so bare and minimum. I was going through one of the dungeons and it just clicked to me that I had just wasted money on a game I’m barely enjoying. I almost quit right there. But I did end up putting more time into it once I got over that moment of grief and just accepted the game for what it was.

    18. I’m one of them. I tried many times to keep going but it’s just to broken to continue. Having to go into the menu 4 times just to change my weapon was it for me.

That’s because 15 hours in you realize the performance is abysmal for a current gen remaster and no amount of time played will make it better. I love it and played through it all on Pro where it played best and even there it still stutters and has god awful illumination issues.

    20. It’s a shame, I had a blast replaying Oblivion again. Even got the platinum. But I think that’s normal. Looking at any torphie listing, the complete the first objecting is never around 100 percent, It’s usually around like 60.

I never loved Oblivion but was excited to try it again. Turns out I still didn’t love it. I’m guessing others may have felt the same

That’s me. The shadow drop hype got me feeling fomo so I bought it played like 10 hours, found it super boring and haven’t touched it since
