I always prefer the screen looking normal.
Stuff like the CRT filters are cool….but a bit distracting.
I also find that they make it a little harder to properly read the screen.
I do like it when retro games have those special filters as an option….but they just aren’t for me.
I never feel like it’s worth using them….considering they could potentially screw up my performance by making it harder to see what’s on-screen.

I love a CTR filter over things I just feel like those games was designed with them in mind. Like I recently played through the DKC trilogy on NSO and I thought all 3 looked wayyyy better with the filter on then off for example!

I generally prefer sharper, but if the CRT filters are actually good and do more than just add scanlines and desaturate the colors, then I’ll throw ’em on once in a while for a SNES or Gamecube game.

Crt filters unless they are truly bad. In which case I’d rather play on an unofficial emulator

I mostly play the retro games on the switch emulator that comes with the online subscription and I’m kind of split. I feel like animations and movements look way better with the CTR filter but I also don’t like how the colors are muted

The games don’t look as intended on modern displays. A good CRT filters approximates how they would’ve looked on the tech of the time. I always have a CRT filter on.

It depends on the crt filter. Some are a bit obnoxious and blur the image too much.
There are amazing devices like the retrotink 4k which take crt filters to a whole new level but it’s expensive.

Having grown up in a time after CRT TVs and before CRT filters became standard for retro rereleases, I’m just too used to the raw pixel-art being on display. It’s so familiar to me, that I almost never use CRT filters now.

CRT filters hurt my eyes and I don’t understand why they’re a thing. I was a kid in the 90s and none of my video games looked that bad on my TVs. They looked pretty good/normal.
