Bought this amazing case!

I owned one of these about ~12 years ago, but it was the green one, and over time the artwork got pretty worn from finger contact while playing.

Would using something like a tablet/phone hydrogel screen protector over the painted surface help prevent wear and preserve the artwork? Or is there a risk that the protector itself could damage the paint when removed or replaced later?
