it's so cheap and low effort, it's almost rude to have this garbage placed next to games with covers created on the hands of actual artists

    1. No one is forcing you to buy it. If you think it looks bad, don’t buy it.

There is lots of ‘slop’ that isn’t AI that’s on Steam too.
Asset flips have been a problem for a long time.

In fact I think a lot of games you provided screenshots are asset flips and don’t have actual ai slop in the game play, just used to make their little thumbnail/store material.

Anyways, Valve has a long history of not curating or deciding what can and can’t be on the store. And I don’t see why they should focus on AI slop specifically if they’re going to start doing that.

    2. If we where to ban things based on the aesthetics of their splatart, a lot of products will not survive

1st place goes to that Laundry Simulator guy’s elbow that is just ridiculous. Did they even look at it before approving?

The disturbing part is that there are people, a lot of people, who either can’t tell this is AI or worse, they like it.

Honestly, I can’t wrap my brain on the fact that people look at this and think it looks good or interesting. This is lazy incarnate.

    6. For a niche of a niche, IT Specialist Simulator is actually pretty good. I don’t think anybody is basing their purchasing decisions on the Steam artwork anyway.

    7. I’m pretty sure AI arts/assets are against Steam’s rules or something, just report those games

I’d rather not, because on which bases would you ban these games ?

Use of AI in game ? Almost every modern game involves AI in some shape or form, banning AI simply wouldn’t happen

Low quality games ? Besides low quality being subjective, increasing the bar for a game to be on steam would only hurt indie devs

    9. well you see. the capsule is the most important first representation of your game.

if they intend their game to be not noticed and clicked. just use AI.

makes it easier to filter slop

    10. Its here to stay, there is no way it will get banned. Valve is fine with it, which is why we now have that AI generated content disclosure.

    11. I don’t mind this actually, because from a glance you can tell how low effort the game is so you don’t have to waste your time looking it up.

    12. at least let me fucking filter it out, you can allow it on your platform but don’t force me to look at it

    13. Fast food sim do not look too bad. While other “sims” that are about selling stuff, use visibly veeeery similar assets, what grind my gears more.

The market will deal with it if consumers genuinely don’t like these games. Quite likely, however, that while cheap-looking Ai-using games like these won’t be successful – akin to cheap-looking non-AI games – the market in general isn’t going to care about AI use in games that look sensibly well.

Hate to tell you tho, those games are actually fun as hell. Imagine a world tho where you get pissed about something that isnt even your business. 🙄
