    1. Not sure what Square is thinking when releasing Final Fantasy VII Remake so close to this one.

      Looks great though !

    2. Was a little put off by the character design and it being a remake but I played the demo and it was excellent. Classic DQ but with some modern touches.

    3. I’m reading that an average playthrough has been reduced from 100 hours to about 40-60 hours depending on how much optional content you decide to do. DQVII always had so much filler and so many unnecessary back and forths, but they have decided to remove a lot of content beyond that. Whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on how much of a fan of the original you are I guess.

    4. I enjoyed the demo while playing on the Switch 2 but decided this is more of a Switch 1 game. Got the Switch 1 version pre-loaded and excited to play it on release!

Edit: Oh wow, didn’t expect that reaction. I don’t need Switch 2 improvements for a chibi turn-based JRPG.

    5. The demo convinced me to buy it at release for full price. It is rare that a game gets me to do that.

I’m a huge Dragon Quest fan but I’m a little skeptical of buying this one. Not for its quality, but for personal reasons. I completed a thorough playthrough of the 3DS remake about 4 years ago, which isn’t a super long time IMO. I really love the art style, but I just don’t see it as being worthwhile for me.

I would, however, happily accept similar remakes of the SNES DQs and, possibly, VIII OR even better – XII. Or another high quality spinoff.

    7. Having played the demo, I have to say while I appreciate the streamlining it felt a little over-streamlined? Like the rainbow caves, there were only like 2 crystal puzzles and then the final floor you could just walk over to the green gem instead of figuring out how to navigate your way there. I get making things shorter, but that felt like turning a puzzle dungeon into a straight line.

And while I’m the first to love the different difficulty options I was stunned at how straight-up handheld some of the default features make things. There’s QoL and then there’s “literally remove every piece of friction you can.”

I like to buy my games physical and really want this on Switch 2 but do not like game key cards. I wonder how the Switch 1 version will perform on Switch 2 since there isn’t any kind of free or paid upgrade confirmed rn
