January 5th 2026, this game was 60% off at 15.59 CDN. The base price was at 38.99. Now, suddenly, the same day the game goes 47% off, the base price shot up to 57.99….
I thought it was illegal for retailers to raise a price to then show a "discount" on said products. I feel this is misleading and there should be something made about it that's consumer friendly and pointing out the price increases.
Or at least some form of regulation. If you look at steam DB, they increased the base price AT THE EXACT SAME TIME that they put the game on sale.

You’ve fallen for the oldest trick in the book: Not checking the actual store page to see what is actually going on.
The base game is still priced at C$38.99.
The base game is not on sale.
The Whispers Edition though is currently on sale for 47% off. Instead of the Whisper Edition costing C$57.99, it’s marked down to C$ 30.73
What Steam is doing is going “Hey, you want this game, so here I present to you the cheapest price YOU can get it for.”
No one raised the price to show a discount.
I would also recommend bookmarking and using SteamDB.
Here is the SteamDB entry for the base game, you can see it’s price history and see it has not changed: https://steamdb.info/sub/513390/
And here is the entry for the Whispers Edition and see it’s price also has not been raised either: https://steamdb.info/sub/1422049/
