>As part of a Bloomberg interview, Obsidian revealed that last year’s The Outer Worlds 2 had underperformed, and a sequel is not in development. Avowed, the company’s other blockbuster RPG released last year, also missed its targets — but Obsidian reportedly still has plans for more from its world of Eora, the same setting as Pillars of Eternity.

Shame. Outer Worlds 2 was superb and a more complete game than Avowed.

I have a feeling if they didn’t drop the ball as badly as they did with Avowed that people would have given The Outer Worlds 2 more of a chance.

I actually liked both games. I didn’t finish Outer Worlds 2 (too many things came out) but I want to finish that up, I believe I’m a little over half done. I finished Avowed and thought it was pretty good.

These sound like Square talking about their games. Makes me think these game companies really need to reconsider and reevaluate what a “well-performing” game looks like. Not everything is going to do BG3, COD numbers.

I desperately want a new proper turn-based Pillars of Eternity game – that series showcases all of Obsidian strengths.

This is what happens when you give up trying to compete with other consoles and rely on a streaming service for revenue.

No doubt the $70 price tag on these certainly had an effect on sales. Seems like those prices were set to help justify the cost of gamepass, but neither game is interesting enough to drive large amounts of subscriptions, as evidenced by Xbox’s declining services revenue.

Well, they don’t say anything about not making a third game at all, they recently finished the base game and are working on expansions, and clearly Avowed is next up anyways, and I’ll obviously be a more ambitious game than the first one.
So the fact that there currently aren’t any plans for a third game yet isn’t really all that surprising, and it certainly doesent mean that there won’t be one, so no point in spreading misinformation.

I haven’t played it yet. I liked the first one and I like Obsidian but Avowed didn’t click at all. They kind of lost their magic for me and i don’t know why.

Sort of the problem with gaming today. Only been 4 months and they call it a failure.

maybe if it didn’t have a news cycle of the game being $80

Then trying to launch it as the first premium price game then backtracking on that really didn’t help with first impressions.
I played the first hour, thought it was alright but forgot it existed to be honest. It’s not bad I just have other higher priority things to do first

Mediocre game has poor sales. More at eleven.

To me, this isn’t really all that surprising.
I did enjoy my time with all 3 of these games but i could at no point shake off this weird feeling of “cheapness” these games invoke in me. I mean its probably no wonder, with Obsidian being one of the output powerhouse studios from MS that at some point quality suffers.
