Today’s direct was obviously not the best, but people calling it the worst are overreacting.

The Partner Showcase in August 2020 is an actual example of a bad direct:

    • Only 12 games shown off
    • Biggest game shown off was Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
    • No “One last thing…” to end the direct, leaving it on a sour note

This morning’s Partner showcase was definitely lacking in places, but did have games that people have been asking to be ported Switch/Switch 2 (Digimon/Granblue/Oblivion Remastered/FF7 Rebirth). I’d give it a 6.5/10 tbh.

    1. People don’t understand how disappointing this direct was, especially since 2020 was a year where Nintendo legitimately had very little in terms of first party releases and the other Partner Showcases in that year had things like SMT V and Monster Hunter Rise, which were great reveals.

    2. Loved this direct. There are way too many games that I want vs what I can actually play lol

    3. If we’re not talking strictly “Directs”, they’ve also had some bad E3s – the one focused on Wii Music, the one that gave a lot of time to the Vitality Sensor (a product I believe never came out). One year, in the GameCube era, Pac-Man was the “one last thing” (I believe that was the original source for the first Reaction Guys image).

      Today was fine.

    4. I feel like I’m going crazy thinking it was perfectly fine? I didn’t even get everything I wanted(saw Konami but no Silent Hill or MGS, Bethesda was there but no DOOM?), I was expecting FFVII, RE9 and Pragmata, and they looked good. Maybe it’s because I don’t mind late ports but there are a few for me to look forward to. A few new game announcements, release dates for games coming. Yeah it’s lame to end on a bunch of Bethesda ports, but hey at least Indiana Jones I can be excited for. Heck I keep complaining about the over reliance on JRPGs and anime games but at least the Bethesda games help add a little more.

Seriously we go through this every damn time, everyone can’t keep their expectations in check, even when we knew a week in advance it would be a partner direct and then get viscerally angry when it drops because they still managed way to high expectations. “This was one of the worst directs ever” get out here dude, are we seriously gonna forget when they were only showing 4 games and one was fucking WWE Battlegrounds

    5. The first partner showcase was probably the worst if we’re just talking partner showcases, unless you were a big fan of Shin Megami Tensei. (It had five games if I recall correctly, two of which were Shin Megami Tensei games and one of which was a WWE game)

Throwing in other Directs and E3 presentations and it seems even harder to say that today’s was the worst. I didn’t find it super exciting, but I didn’t find it awful either.

People always have unrealistic expectations for partner directs. This one was pretty good,

Remember the Direct that was almost all farming sims?

    7. If it doesn’t have Smash Bros or a new Mario/Zelda/Xenoblade etc, it’s always the worst Direct ever, haven’t you heard?

    8. This is the first partner direct I’ve liked in a while. FFVII Rebirth and Indiana Jones release dates are enough to get me excited.

    9. It’s a partner showcase. I am not interested in most games but guys it’s a very decent partner showcase. It had first person 3rd person games, puzzle games, adventure games, horror games, fps. What do you expect more ?? Duskbloods ? That would be unlogical and stupid of nintendo. Big titles unannounced must only be in a big direct not a partner showcase. The hype will only be big if the trailer is big and long.

At least that had an excuse to be bad. We were in a god damn pandemic. This one is worse to me because what’s the excuse as to why this one was so bad?

    11. Not a Direct, but the 2015 E3 was bad enough to where it’s still my personal floor for how disappointing a presentation can be. That’s when we got hit with Federation Force, Amiibo Festival, and Triforce Heroes. Three spinoffs for franchises that people were starving for and left empty handed.

And Star Fox Zero, if you even remember that one.

    12. Funnily enough i have been hoping for an oblivion port so I am pleased with this direct lol

    13. oh my god thank you, it would be genuinely extremely difficult to make a direct worse than august 2020. puyo puyo tetris 2 was the sole thing of value i saw in it, and it was announced on twitter hours beforehand so it didn’t even count!

honestly i’d put today’s above last summer’s at the very least. we got some nice third party gets in digimon, the oblivion remaster, ff7 rebirth, resi and pragmata, whereas last summer had P3 reload, and… uh… the pacman world 2 remake? anything else?
