Disappointing, but not surprising. Definitely one I’ll pick up used or on a sale
I’m not upset that the story mode is only 2-3 hours long.
I’m quite peeved that they obviously know people wanted a decent story mode, to the point where they prominently featured this one in their advertising, *and then* it turned out to only be a 2-3 hours long experience with no replay-ability.

From all the reviews I’ve read, it’s a perfectly adequate party game, but it feels overpriced at $70.
My personal problem with it and the price is that I already own the Switch 1 predecessor.
This game does not seem to do enough content-wise to justify getting it when I can just go play Aces. At least not at $70. There just isn’t enough new stuff there.
So it’s perfectly Mid based on reviews
How can I purchase this product?
Ok, definitely not buying this one. Feels like there’s a bit of a drought right now for great nintendo games…
I hope all Mario sports games tank on the Switch 2. Like absolutely bomb. Maybe… just maybe then Nintendo will start taking them seriously again.
Man. I want to buy Mario sports games but they do not make it easy for me to spend my money. Last one I bought was Strikers Battle League and I only bought it because I will always buy Mario Strikers, it’s my favourite one. Tennis is my second favourite but if it’s gonna be this half-baked then nah.
Hope that means they are cooking up a new Mario Golf game now. TBH I still play the Switch one all the time
Best reviewed Mario Tennis game since 2004’s Mario Power Tennis for GameCube
I’ve played it for a while tonight and I’m having a good time with the game so far. The actual gameplay feels great with a fair amount of depth. It is overall slower and perhaps more arcade-y than Aces, but that works for me. I think Fever is a bit more accessible for casual gamers than Aces was.
The story mode really is short, and just an expansive tutorial. Not so much different from Aces. Besides Free Play, other solo/coop/offline content consists of the Trail Towers, Special Matches, Score Matches, and the three cups (tournaments), which I haven’t dipped into yet. There’s also Swing Mode that uses motion controls. I briefly tried it out and it worked well enough, but didn’t strike me as outstanding. Tennis motion controls have been done better before.
I got the game mostly for the online multiplayer and the achievements/unlockables (there are plenty of these), and it delivers in these areas, with some room for improvements (online tournaments, ability to play as a premade team in online doubles). Visuals, animations and performance are top-notch.
