Today I performed a complex 4-hour procedure on a critically neglected 3DS XL patient.
The patient was admitted with:
• Severe shell contamination (advanced rust spread across the upper housing)
• Speaker malfunction
• Internal debris accumulation
• General structural fatigue
We began with a full disassembly to assess internal damage. The upper assembly showed significant corrosion along the hinge channel and speaker bay. The right speaker wiring required careful desoldering and re-seating. Ribbon cables were inspected.
Extensive cleaning was performed:
• Rust removal from internal plastic frame
• IPA treatment on affected areas
• Speaker module inspection
• Full dust and debris evacuation
• Top screen replaced
No ribbon casualties. No snapped hinge. No stripped tri-wing screws. A miracle.
Reassembly was slow and deliberate especially routing the upper ribbon without inducing stress fractures (as we all know, that’s where patients flatline).
Final diagnosis:
– Boots perfectly
– Both screens operational
– Audio restored
– Structural integrity preserved
The patient is now stable and ready to return to active duty.
Prognosis: Long life ahead, provided it avoids further environmental abuse.
Always remember: box your consoles, store them dry, and check on them once in a while. Preventative care saves lives.
