Hey everyone, I’m thinking about picking up Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox. It’s currently on sale for around $14 for the Standard Edition and about $18 for the Ultimate Edition in my region.
I’m mainly interested in the single-player story, and I’ve never played it before. Is it really as good as people say? Do you think it’s worth buying in 2026?
Also, is $14 considered a good deal for this game, or does it usually drop even lower during major sales? I don’t mind waiting if it’s likely to go cheaper.
And if I do grab it, is it worth spending a few extra dollars on the Ultimate Edition, or is the standard version more than enough for someone focused on story mode?
Would really appreciate some honest opinions. Thanks!

Its not good price. Just 80% sale.. pfff /s
The ultimate edition will help you out a bit when you’re done with the main game and head into online but if you’re more focused on the main game (story) it’ll take you a while before you even reach online so relatively it’s up to you I wouldn’t waste the extra bucks on it but in the long run if you do plan to play online it’ll be best to just get it now instead of having to rebuy.
What currency do you use? Tattooine Credits?
I pulled the trigger and got it for £14.99 the other day.
I played the first one when it came out originally but never got round to this.
I’m hoping that the rumoured next gen. update is going to happen before GTA VI releases and we get a free upgrade, similar to what happened with the first one.
If not, it’s still got the original story and online mode, so it’s a win.
I think the prices discussed aren’t far off the lowest it’s been. However, you can check XB Deals to find out.
I mean, its one of the best stories I’ve played in a long time when it was released. It’s even worth it without the discount 😂
But 30fps. Why won’t anyone think of the fps
Maybe not. There’s probably a new version coming with proper current-gen support and they will sell that at full price. I’d wait for a deep sale of that version.
I’ve watched the price for this game for some time now, it hasn’t gone down from a 80% price reduction in years now, so the one you’re seeing is the cheapest you’ll get anytime soon on the Xbox store.
The ultimate edition – as far as I know – only really offers cosmetic additions in story mode and some more stuff for the online part. You’ll have to decide whether that’s worth the additional 4$.
In terms of whether it’s good or not – it’s so well-crafted that it was even featured in a South Park episode as a game everyone was addicted to. It won several game of the year awards if I’m not mistaken.
