These rarely work because it’s such an expensive liability when it gets broken, swapped, “lost.” What are they going to do, send collections agents? Those aren’t free either.

I guess it is nice for people that just want to catch up on some exclusives if they don’t own a pc.

Target had this with Xbox series Xs I think.

They want us to be happy with owning nothing and being on the hook for payments.

You will own nothing, and you will like it
At this point, you may as well do monthly payments on a console you’ll own after

If you are paying almost 500 dollars over three years to rent a ps5 why not just finance it, sure that would be a bit more expensive, but then you have the ps5 at the end of it, which will probably be worth the ~30% extra you paid on interest. Besides if you stop paying what are they going to do, repossess your console? Seems like your in the same boat as if you defaulted on the lease.

Testing out this business model so in 10 years we all have to lease our consoles for a monthly subscription. I’m exhausted.

I think for a family that can’t afford one out right, this would be a good thing, but other than that fuck it

Corporations would be happy with a society of renters who owns nothing and in which they own everything.

I can see this program be useful for people who want to open their own game rental shop where people come in to pay to play for couple hours inside the store, kind of like internet cafe. In Vietnam, there’s quite a lot of Playstation rental store where people who don’t have the mean to buy the console can just pay a couple of bucks to play it for 1-2 hours.

I remember being a kid and going the Sega Genises route instead of SNES.
Being able to rent a Super Nintendo as a kid who would never be able to ask his parents for another console was a really cool option.

Haven’t they been doing this for a year already? I remembered reading about it so I checked and there’s already articles about it from last year. They also did this in Japan as well if I’m remembering correctly.

Why would you ever do this? If you want a console that bad you just get a 24 month interest free credit card and own the console at the end of it.
If you can’t afford that you have no business having one full stop.
