So I play on Xbox and my dad got me this for more storage so I tried to get Doom the dark ages with the more storage but it doesn’t work. I tried to move it to the seagate device but it said I could but I won’t be able to play it.
Just wanted to know if I have to get another thing that’s better than this or if am doing something wrong

External drives can only play one x and before games. For series games they are storage only.
What Xbox do you have because iirc doom the dark ages is only on the xbox series x/s and no new games are being made for the xbox one
You need the Seagate expansion card to store and play the newer games. The other expansion drive is for Xbox one and below
You cant play series x games from that but you can store them on it. Just copy it over to the console and move something to the storage.
Dads not wrong you’ll just have to juggle games.
That’s the wrong one. See the picture to the right of that black with green, that’s the expansion drive that lets you play next gen games off it.
Do some googling and you’ll see the requirements. External doesn’t let you play off the for Series XS titles. The expansion card in the second picture lets you play off it as it is the same as the internal drive and plugs into the expansion card.
This is not the right one to.play games on.
Use this search to find the right one

Your current one only works for Xbox one and one x not series x/s
You can’t play any Xbox series X game directly from a HDD or SSD connected with a USB cable. You can store those games there, but to play it, the files will need to be transferred to the internal drive. Xbox one and older titles will work directly, though.
If you want to expand memory to play the series titles, you will need to get an expansion card. Those are basically SSDs that are configured to match the same speed as the internal drive, and they fit into a special slot on the back of the console.
For right now, I would suggest to transfer any games you’re not playing right now to the external drive to make space for Doom.
You can play musical chairs with this and move games you’re not currently playing on it to fit Doom directly onto the Xbox. Unless you have lightning fast internet, transferring stuff back and forth between your console’s SSD and an external drive is going to be much faster than deleting and redownloading software.
You have to use an expansion card for series X/S games. Only Xbox One X & below work on an external drive.
Its actually gross that they advertise this way. Labelling it “seagate drive for xbox” was bound to cause confusion on The side of lesser informed caring family members who get told “its has tk be the seagate card for xbox”.
I’ll always advocate on consumers doing their research and asking shop staff if possible for guidance but it’s still poor practice on the part of the manufacturers.
