Just got through trying it. It’s *close*… but it’s not quite exactly like the real deal.

If all you want is to play the games and check them out, then yeah, this is serviceable enough to allow you to do that. But compared to the original Virtual Boy, where it falls short is in the motion blurring. The real Virtual Boy has absolutely *zero* motion blur if it’s properly working, but with the Switch 2’s display, that’s just not the case. And, overall, the display is a bit blurrier than you’ll find on the real thing. The real thing, properly adjusted and dialed in to your IPD and focus, is shockingly sharp.

I haven’t had a chance to try out the Switch OLED just yet. I may do so tomorrow and see if that makes any difference, but I doubt it. Also, not having the original controller still takes away from the experience a bit because that controller was quite unique.

If you liked the original Virtual Boy (I know, but I honestly do), then this is fine enough. It’s actually very good. As good as you’ll get without spending a king’s fortune for a full collection and a fully working unit, anyway. But it isn’t 100% perfect, nor did I expect it to be.

I can seem to exit out of the app tho. It says to take out of the accessory headset and then select “close” but it won’t let me. Is this a bug or what. I have to fully shut down the switch 2 in order just to exit the virtual boy switch online app

    3. It doesn’t work in docked and in handheld it always displays a double image that you are supposed to use the lens for. So no, it isn’t technically playable in 2D for anyone still wondering.
