They’re called black hole games for a reason. They’re destroying this industry, too many people are playing these and only these games.
I don’t know how you stop this but all I do know is they do need to be stopped. Otherwise the kind of gaming most of us like will continue to decline as there’s just no money left to support it.

And the year before that… and the decade before that.
News flash—Live service games are popular on all gaming platforms and have been for a long time.

This is why Sony will never let go of trying to hit big with their own GaaS… Very unfortunate for those who don’t give a shit about those kinda games. If they hit another big one like HD2, they’ll recoup everything they’ve lost on those other studios they closed.. it sucks.

and yet people act confused about Sony wanting to make live service games
They don’t see your internet outrage because of the wall of money in front of them

I’m almost afraid to ask, but: how much money do these games generate?

In case anyone’s wondering why Sony are pushing for a live service hit so much, this is why.
I don’t like it, but I understand why they’re doing it

Not surprising as most traditional games aren’t meant to played for hundreds of hours. It’s kinda why I fucking love em. So yeah, super super surprising that games designed to consume all your time are the ones most played. Also super super unhealthy for the industry. But just more signs that AA and indies are where the heart and soul of gaming is. Fuck AAA. Well, most of AAA anyway.

Look I think we all know why Sony wants live service games. But their method of executing on the plan has been putrid. They deserve all the smoke for failing their studios they’re supposed to foster

Crazy that Xbox owns two of the top played titles on PlayStation. No wonder they DGAF about console sales anymore!

Minecraft isn’t exactly what I’d call live service tbh.

So a free online game where you can spend infinite hours keep people playing more than a game that last 10/40 hours and cost money?
That’s shocking!

Sony chasing after the success of games I have zero interest in is making me hesitant on investing in Sony in the future. I don’t want all of their investments going into products that don’t cater to me.

These live service games are going to be the death of single player games.

Fortnite and Roblox will always be there, and they are played by kids 12 and under. These are purposely misleading stats. Most played doesn’t mean units sold either. It just means time spent playing games that are designed with grind mechanics. Again, misleading stats.

It comes with the territory of being the preferred system of the common denominator. At this point, PlayStation is synonymous of gaming.

And this has been true for years and before that it was mp games like COD and this is why Sony keeps killing sp focused devs and focusing on this bs. This is why Fromsoft did Nightreign and others are trying to cash in. That Fortnite money is too much for them to ignore even if they keep failing!
With that said Sony is very tunnel vision right now and have made some real stupid choices. First was canceling Factions live service and idc what ND said it was a stupid move and we ended up not even getting any mp with the TLOU, that would have been easy money. Another is not revitalizing a game like Warhawk which would fit the Gaas model perfectly and print money. Many were surprised by Helldivers success but i wasn’t and always said it will surprise as it did becayuse it looked like a competent mp game. Add Warhawk or a Resistance game into the Gaas equation and as long as its well doen itll print. Instead we get a Horizon, Firtnite looking clone smfh!
