This is the top MOST HELPFUL negative reviews for Terraria, 98% are jokes about the game or telling you to buy it. But with not just Terraria I see so many joke negative reviews, but doesn't it just mark down the ratings of the game and bury actual reviews?

I understand the jokes, but they just mark down the actual rating of the game and bury the actual reviews (this was sorting of MOST HELPFUL on negative reviews)

    1. I’m glad someone finally said it!

After almost 13 years of Steam Reviews I’m glad you had the courage to bring up how annoying joke reviews, especially the negative reviews!

No one has ever thought to bring up the annoyance these cause and how telling someone something like ‘buy this game’ in a negative review counts against the game!

Thank you for being the brave first soldier to tackle this topic!

(See, the joke is most of us dislike joke reviews, negative or positive. So it has been discussed many many many times.)

Anyways, you are not the only one. This has been a problem since they launched reviews (Nov 2013). It got worse when they rolled out Steam Awards that gave Steam Points to people, resulting in point farming type trolls trying to get jester awards by doing silly things in places like Steam Reviews.
Thankfully Steam has changed Steam Awards so you no longer get points now, but that doesn’t mean people won’t still stop posting things to be funny.

This is why I don’t really look much at Steam Reviews outside of a cursory glance.

    2. It’s the problem with modern reviews and internet in general.

Assault on the market of attention without any substance.

It’s a good indicator of children and immature minded people who would get upset when those reviews need to be pruned from the general score.

EDIT: Negative engagement is more common than engagement from people that enjoyed something but not enough to comment. But that’s what modern marketing and social media is based on. Anything for a reaction. And we wonder why immature minds do this.
