I bought the series X 3 years ago and have been sooo careful with storage and limiting games. It’s actually so annoying. But I just looked at my storage and it’s 93 PERCENT FULL!!!! I only have 14 games with the two largest being FH5 and MSFS 2020. For $500 it should be more than 8280 default gigs of storage. Is it worth paying 1/4 the price of the console for 1 extra TB??

For a little more def unneeded context I just got gamepass and want to try a ton of new games for free but can’t because Xbox storage space 😞
I never play 14 games at a time. Usually one online game, one single player story-focused game, and maybe an indie game, or retro game. So you just need to ask yourself, how many games do you actually play at a time, and is it worth it to you? I usually do have about 10-20 games at a time installed at any given time anyway, but if I need to download something new and there no space, I just go “okay, I’ll just delete all the games I haven’t played in the last month”, and that is usually most of them. Always enough of them to clear the space anyway.
Yes, And the cost sucks.
I had to do it because it was exhausting managing storage. And some games are massive now.
They work really really well. I think they are worth the money. Although I play primarily on PlayStation because, come on, it’s a great feature. One I wish they’d have stolen.
It’s absolutely worth getting the largest possible storage space. Don’t settle. Spend the extra for as much storage as possible. My wife gets cheaper, smaller ones and now we’re having to get the expensive ones like I have because she wanted to save money lol 🤣
As someone with the 4tb card, yes, more storage is always worth it
I know prices aren’t coming down anytime soon but I still wouldn’t pay that.
Ironically, a 1 TB ssd is now more expensive than the expansion drive, so I guess it’s worth it? I got mine last fall during an Amazon sale where they also do a 30% on Amazon Resale Items. Got a 1 tb for around $90.
1 TB? No.
2 TB? Yes, you will quickly find yourself regretting only getting 1 TB.
You’re probably best off with this 5TB:

Basically the same price as the 1 TB, and should still let you play Series X|S games from what I’m seeing about it.
No, not really.
Genuine question. I have a 1tb ssd drive connected via USB, what’s the difference?
If you want multiple games to play at any given moment outside of cloud gaming you’ll have to pay for the storage. It really sucks there aren’t any options.
I have a 4 TB HDD that I use to store all of my games on that I’m not currently playing and I only keep the titles I’m actively working through on my SSD. I bought the 1 TB SSD expansion card for my series X and I honestly feel as though it was unnecessary. Unless you game hop consistently and are actively playing a lot of games all at once then transferring them to and from the HDD to the SSD isn’t too much of a hassle. Even large games can be moved over in only 10 to 15 minutes. 20+ minutes for the absolute storage hogs. Half the time I don’t even move the games over, I just copy them from the HDD to the SSD so when I need instant space on my SSD I just delete the copy that’s on it and I’ll still have the backup on my HDD.
It’s worth it if you can afford it. Otherwise, na.
Nah, I quickly realized I don’t need a whole TB of games installed. I’m not playing all those things at the same time. And my internet is decent enough that I can download most games in 20-30 minutes. That’s my situation, I guess it could be different depending on your needs.
Not worth it if you have a fast internet connection. Delete and download, keep it moving
I’ll be the lone dissenter here by saying no, it’s not worth it, but only if you have really great internet speeds. I only ever play 3-4 games at any time, and any game that I’d want to play is about 30 minutes to download at the worst.
Otherwise, it’s great to have more storage especially with bad internet.
Unfortunately your best bet is either the July Amazon sale or Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. The 1 TB normally runs for $89 during that time and the two terabyte tends to fall under $200. I hit those sales twice once for 1 TB and then a year maybe 2 years later for 2 tb.
I got lucky in 2023 and bought a few Samsung 8 TB SSD drives when they were dirt cheap, so I have one of those attached for external storage for all of my Xbox One and Xbox 360 games.
Yes. I’ve been through the 1, 2, and now 4TB cards. I absolutely glad I got it even thought the price sucked.
But really it all depends on what your gaming habits are. Do you have a bunch of games that you bounce back and forth from? Of stick to a few before moving on. even the games I seldom play, I play enough to not want to go through downloading or transferring.
No way. If you really want extra storage, just add a decent external HDD and move series S/X games to/from it. On the plus side, you can still use the external hard drive to store/play older titles
I got one. An extra terabyte was nice to have especially for temporary games and large installs. No regerts
1TB expansion card and 4TB external drive. The expansion card is worth it for me. I download games I want to play and they often sit idle for a long time. I clean up games when I’m done with them but often found myself bouncing up against storage before expansion card. The expansion card gives me more room to game hoard and less fiddling with shuffling games from eternal storage to internal storage and such. Worth $150? That’s between you and your bank account. It’s a spendy little over priced bastard for what it is, but I’m happy I have one.
I got one for like 110 a few years ago, not sure how it cant be worth it?
I thought it was worth it when I got it but seems like a personal choice 🤷♂️
For convenience, yes, the expansion cards are totally worth it. I have a few that I’ve picked up secondhand on the cheap and I love it. I also have a standard external Seagate Drive that stores all of my Xbox one in Xbox 360 games. You can also store series games on an external drive, and then transfer them to the console storage or expansion card storage when you want to play them.
Just get a regular external for 1/4 the cost and move the games over when you play them. You don’t need 15 games playable at the same time most likely
I was able to get one in a sale for $100. It’s absolutely worth it.
Having more storage is awesome. Xbox using a proprietary form factor for their SSD’s and never adjusting to market price for regular SSD’s is frustrating. Personally I have a 2TB ssd in my PS5 on top of regular storage. I never really play more than one or two games at a time though so it doesn’t even really get used. Might throw it back in my Mac Mini dock.
If you’re like me and manage your storage it’s probably not worth it. If multiple people are using the console, like kids or something and there are 10 games installed it might be something to look in to.
Or if you have kids buy them a used console and tell them to leave your sh!t alone or it’s military school :D. $150 isn’t good for 1TB but it’s nice to have and you’re kinda stuck.
There are numerous other external storage options that are significantly cheaper than this one. Seagate is merely an Xbox brand, so you’ll be paying the full price.
