I think the same. It is unfair, specially with indie games with a small groups of devs. I even saw bad reviews about that in very old games, as a way to force devs to upgrade the game.

Store page tells you if a game is steam deck compatible. If they want to ignore that and then leave a negative review then yeah it’s a shitty thing to do

It depends, for games like project zomboid the devs flat out lie about the verified steam deck controls because basic controls like gun aiming or fishing are entirely unimplemented which makes it false advertising. I got banned from their steam forums for pointing this fact out btw.

I mean big question is are these reviews helpful? I don’t have a steamdeck so to me ya these reviews are useless but if the game page says it’s deck compatible but then when you play it it’s untrue then these reviews are very valid and needed to warn folks with decks.

People have their needs. If this need is for a game to be compatible with their device, then it is a valid point.
Every owner is entitled to their own review based on their priorities.

If it’s not listed as compatible and you buy it anyway without researching if it works anyway, that’s on you and doesn’t deserve a negative review.
Games that are verified and play like shit do deserve it.
However your statement “it’s not the devs job to make it compatible” is untrue. It literally is. Valve makes it easier, but being verified does take dev work. I think any new release that’s not hugely demanding should be working to get verified for the Deck. I knew quite a few gamers that only play on their Deck now as their PC aged out and it makes more sense for them.

As a steam deck owner I don’t think it’s fair. The Steam Deck is fantastic and I love mine but it simply does not have the power it needs to play some games. Plus, some games like Battlefield 6 have an anticheat that’s just not compatible with a Linux based OS that runs on the SD. I think it’s a great handheld and I’d recommend it to any PC gamer but you have to temper your expectations with it.

Same way people give negative reviews when it does not run in a 1060, I respect that. You must review the game based on YOUR experience, is YOUR space to review it, do what you want. (and if you are an asshole, maybe steam will remove your review)
