The only good thing from this decision is I don’t have to hear the pharse “playstation 5 has no games” ever again.

    2. I have no opinion on whether this is good or bad, but I think the main reason (besides possibly some ports not selling as good as they expected) is that the next Xbox “console” is going to basically be a PC with third party storefronts such as Steam. And I guess Sony doesn’t want an Xbox being able to play PS games.

They are still in the business of selling hardware and keeping people in their ecosystem.

    3. Everyone loses from this.

They should always be exclusive but with some sort of timer. Shit delay it two years, whatever. There is no downside to pulling other players into your bubble.

Maybe next time an exclusive comes out (Wolverine, etc.) the PC guys will want to shell out for a PS5 because of how great the ports were. The two year wait is too long, now you have a new customer.

It’s kinda funny how no one gets mad at Nintendo for having exclusives, but with PlayStation there’s so much drama and argument involved.

Makes sense. They’ve only made $1.5-$2 billion in six years from their ports and they want people to buy their console.

PC, PS and Switch covers all your gaming needs.

Another stupid decision. No one who doesn’t already have a PS5 is going to buy one to play these games, or any PlayStation games.

    7. *”..single-player titles such as last year’s samurai hit Ghost of Yotei and the upcoming action game Saros will remain exclusive to PlayStation 5″*

I fully expected Legends to be released alongside a PC port so when they announced its release so soon, I knew something felt off.

I think this is a good thing. If you look at Nintendo and Xbox or even PS4, one tactic has been working regardless of what Microsoft execs may want you to think with such statements as “exclusives are ancient” or “anticonsumer”, words spoken by a company who could not be successful in that endeavor.

They realized its better in the long run to have a walled garden, than it is to make some quick cash in the short term, while sacrificing the value in their console and losing players to PC.

    9. This sucks, I own a PS5 but my the experience on my much more powerful pc is much better, playing games with higher fidelity at higher frame rates.

    10. I think this is Sony trying to capitalise on their market lead and get out in front to build a bit of a moat against future challenges. With Valve essentially entering a console-like state / hybrid, similar to how the Switch was both a handheld and console hybrid, this is Sony using their IP as a reason to shift consoles. Unique in other spaces but this is basically how almost every gen was until the last few years.

    11. I think this is the usual good for the bussines, bad for the customers type of decision, if it turns out to be true.

On many occasions, I was more than happy to wait extra time for originally exclusive games to come to PC (because it simply feels better to play a better looking game at a better frame rate). My PS5 has been collecting dust for years at this point and I don’t think this change would force me to pick it up again, even though I would like to play Saros one day.

Great news, now if they only could drop their live service games policy as well …

Sounds like Nishino being a platform guy has understood that keeping people in the ecosystem is smart move. With the portal and alleged hybrid coming we are seeing this happen. Just as Steam also try to expand their ecosystem to consoles with the Steam Machine.

    14. As someone who likes the option to have a PC version, I totally get it. PS5 is already light on exclusives this gen and seeing as most of their games are timed exclusives, PS5 doesn’t stand out as much as previous generations.

People saying that Sony must hate money when the reason they’re doing it is because it wasn’t making enough money to justify it. Nintendo is crushing it. Xbox fell flat on its face when it diluted its brand. Sony tested the water and went, nah I’m good.

    16. PC Gamers will play the games via emulation and still get the best version of whatever game Sony refuses to bring to PC (and for free).

    17. Least_Stand_2707 on

Good news! Sony shouldve never ported single player games to pc to begin with

I know a lot of people are anti exclusives, but exclusives are very much needed. They are what define a specific console and what makes most people buy the said console. Just look at Xbox. It makes complete sense from a business standpoint to have exclusives.

    19. the-bacon-life on

Now I know it’s not gonna happen but if Xbox turns around and brings back exclusive games for its next Xbox imagine the rage from the media while many praise Sony doing it as a smart move

    20. LeonSigmaKennedy on

I wonder if there will be an exception for games like Wolverine, since the licensing is so notoriously expensive you would think they’d want to claw every possible penny they can out of it. (Pun unintended)

    21. HistoryMaker15 on

It’s kinda funny how the person who always makes fun of the PS5 for having no games is now upset about this decision lol.

    22. I PERSONALLY think exclusives should not be a thing. I already have my digital library of games and achievements on PlayStation, so I probably will never move away, but I do want to play other stuff that is only on PC, or Nintendo or Xbox. And if exclusives were not a thing, I would be able to play all that stuff on my platform of choice.

That being said, I totally understand it from a business perspective. Releasing PS games on PC may seem like a bonus source of revenue for Sony, but considering the work a lot of those ports need to have on them to be PC-ready, and some not selling that much on PC, the cost of making them may not justify the investment on those ports, so honestly no surprises there.

Also, exclusives have been a huge deciding factor when buying a console, and Sony is not giving up on that market, so having games that can only be played there makes total sense, because it’ll impact console sales directly, plus with the rumors of Xbox future approach, it avoids PS games being played there. Also no one seems to shit on Nintendo for being an exclusive focused platform since forever.

It only solidifies (for me) the opinion that the best you can do nowadays is have a PS + PC, so you can play all exclusives and have access to pretty much every other game out there, except Nintendo’s.

    23. the-bacon-life on

Sony releases about 2 games from 1st party a year now and half that is service games. Pc gamers are not missing much. Xbox really loses here because that was a big reason for the next Xbox and since Xbox games are on steam anyway. I’m still excited for the steam machine

    24. smokingace182 on

I wonder if this is maybe to do with Xbox “new direction” stopping exclusives from going to PlayStation. Especially if it’s true the next Xbox will be capable of playing games from steam.

    25. The lack of exclusives pushed me to get a proper PC rig for the first time.

My PS5 will be used soley for exclusives which I want.

Also great not paying for online anymore.
