The release of the new Resident Evil has made me realize that finding physical copies of newly released games is almost impossible UNLESS you preorder. I live in a big city with many other cities surrounding the area, and every single store that sells games with a 50 mile radius of me were all sold out, absolutely nothing. Could be bc of higher than expected sales, but i think the companies just don’t print enough to begin with, it’s absurdly difficult without preordering to even find anything in the shelves.

Even by preordering you still get hit with delays. It even happened with this one!

    2. There’s plenty of copies here. I really think it’s area dependent. This area is a lot of PC players. So PS games tend to sit on shelf’s for a while. There’s no more Xbox displays anywhere. I’ve been snagging up the last of physical PS games that discounted. It’s going to be sad walking into the store one last time and seeing no physical copies on shelves.

I’ve noticed this as well. They’re trying to get everyone to buy digital as much as possible.

    4. ive seen many copies in stores around me. its really dependent on where you live. in due time they will be everywhere like other games seeing as it’s a big publisher like capcom

I feel like it’s always been like that. At least for a long long time. I remember that being a struggle even 15-20 years ago. Especially with big ticket games.

Crimson dessert deluxe edition for ps5 is sold out everywhere and there are posts up on eBay treating it as a preorder, on fucking eBay. That needs to be illegal, game isn’t even out yet and they are actively manipulating the market for a higher price. Of course the current administration probably sees it as winning. Lol what a joke our world has become.

It’s a shame because the deluxe edition actually looks like something worth buying. Steelbook, some goodies and the game for only $20 more than base. Such a disgrace.

    7. You live in a heavily populated area, that’s the issue, not that they aren’t making enough copies. Your city’s stores just didn’t get enough to meet the demand and when they restock, they will likely have too many and result in overstock

    8. How sad is Capcom that they can no longer use the “Evil” to make different Roman Numerals?

    9. It’s to push pre orders. Either pre order or wait a week+ for a restock. Been like this for a minute, this is just the biggest game I’ve seen it happen with

I get they don’t really want a surplus of games sitting on shelves but the physical games these days aren’t even “cool”. I miss the cool deluxe and steelbooks on many games. Biased as a collector, but way more likely to preorder a game at full price if there’s a cool print/steelbook/generally quality physical copy. Preordering just for digital rewards feels so icky

    11. All to remove physical ownership from people and make it a thing of the past

Hope you guys enjoy your digital games you bought for cheap because soon everything will be digital

The unfortunate result of consumer trends. Physical sales only account for around 10-20% of all sales for consoles. There was just a report from a couple of days ago stating that physical games sales hit a 30 year low in 2025. So publishers have largely stopped producing large number of disks.

There’s also a local effect as well. Stores like GameStop have very limited inventory space, meaning they can’t afford to let things languish on the shelves. So the individual stores have some input into what stock they get, as they place orders based on their expected sales. This is why pre-ordering at individual locations used to be so important, as it helped gauge total sales expectations so the stores could plan ahead. If absolutely no one pre-orders, they’re probably not going to order more than a handful of copies.

A lot of the stores near me are shrinking their game/physical media inventories, stocking the Nintendo/PS/XBox sections with everything but games.

Someone is probably flipping them…Where are they becoming hard to find?

I’ve had a hard time finding this one. My preordered copy arrived with a loose disc, so I returned it
