I've recently wanted to try and refurbish my new 3ds xl but I'm having a problem with this top left screw. It won't move or turn at all no matter the method I use. So I'm considering just ripping the backshell off but since theres panels there, I wanted to ask first if it's safe.

No, are you a barbarian or something? You could easily rip the threads out of the screw, or even just rip the entire screw post out.
Use the largest phillips head screw driver you have that will fit into the screw head, press down hard and unscrew. If that doesn’t work, use a dremel to cut a slot in the screw head then use a small flat headed screw driver to remove screw.
give it a try but dont blame me if u break it too much
No. Get a rubber band and cover the head of the screw while using the screwdriver. You need something to give it traction. If that doesn’t work, try what the other commenter said about making a slot for a flathead.
