Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what might be wrong with my 3DS.

Everything seems to work perfectly fine: it turns on, the buttons work, the screens look normal, and I can play without issues. However, there’s one strange problem. If I open the console too far (like fully opening the top screen), the system suddenly turns off, and at the exact moment it shuts down I hear a small “tack” sound.

If I keep the screen slightly less open, it keeps working normally. So it almost feels like something happens when the hinge reaches a certain position.

I also recently found the 3DS again after a long time. I used to play with it when I was younger, so it’s been sitting unused for years. If I remember correctly, there’s a chance it might have fallen at some point in the past, so I’m wondering if that could have caused this kind of issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what could cause this? Could it be a ribbon cable, the hinge, or something else?

Thanks in advance to everybody 🌚!

    1. Ribbon cable

Should be okay after you reseat it

      I don’t think it’s broken just loose

    2. It’s the ribbon cable. It could either have been broken or the cable is just loose and you need to connect it to the motherboard again. Connecting it back isn’t all too hard. However you need to unscrew a lot of screws. I’d recommend getting a Japanese #00 screwdriver since the screws used are special Japanese #00s. Philips #00 also works if you use a lot of down pressure however you risk stripping your screws. Dont take my word on this but the cable probably isn’t broken. If it was the upper screen wouldn’t ever be turned on.
