      > It’s excellent on PS5 Pro, but still seems perfectly decent on the base PlayStation 5 – it’s just that the **performance mode doesn’t look great,** while 60fps is indeed best described as a “target frame-rate” as opposed to a general description of its overall performance level. Not having access to 60fps gaming might be a disappointment, but when using the quality toggles to swap to balanced and quality modes, the boost to perceived resolution and detail level is so vast, you’re willing to make the trade.

Solid breakdown. I’ll likely stick to balanced mode. Thanks for posting.

    3. They were obviously hiding base console performances. Their PR guy should get a raise, he has done a fantastic job selling a product you can’t see

I’ve been playing on Balanced on the base PS5 and it’s been solid so far.

I like the smooth frame rate of performance despite the graphical downgrade. Definitely doesn’t look nearly as good, but I find balanced and quality hurts my eyes a bit.

    6. All I keep hearing is conflicting thoughts about the game. Is it worth or not worth full price?

This is the only game that makes me regret having a 4K TV with 60HZ and no VRR.

    8. I’m playing on base PS5 quality mode and so far (~3 hours) performance has been solid. Haven’t gotten to many chaotic moments yet though.

    9. I play on balanced and it’s not that bad tbh.

I usually dont play on quality or balance in other games.

No mention on draw distance which is problematic and textures popping left and right.

    11. i tried balanced on my pro but the frame rate is trash. have to play on performance for it to be acceptable

I can’t personally tell the difference between 30 and 40fps – they both look jumpy to me. The thing that was hard for me was the input lag with v-sync turned on. Once I turned that off, input lag dropped to 0, and now performance mode looks great.

      Base PS5 guy here,

I’m not a particularly picky graphics guy, but the performance mode can be so jarring at times it just takes me out of it.

For me, it’s the transitional lighting going from indoors/outdoors or shaded area/sunny area. The lighting just gets so weird.

I go into a small room with a fireplace and there isn’t a single flicker. The whole rooms just glows a faint red.

I went into a castle and all the stone reflected weird like it was magical. Except it wasn’t, it was just funky lighting making the stone dance like that.

I change it to balanced or optimal and, while the lighting slightly improves, all that still persists.

The set pieces are great tho, very well done. The performance is solid for me so far too. It just kinda hurts my head to look at sometimes. If you’re sensitive to that kind of thing, like me, it may not be for you.

Objectively, it looks worse than a lot of PS5 games but is really fun. I’m not so sure they should have released it at all on PS5 OR had just been more forthcoming with the limitations of the system because clearly there are limitations. I wasn’t expecting the world but idk if this game is worth it for me on this system.

    14. I kept seeing people say to turn off 120hz on the ps5, and I guess it’s refreshing to see the issue is exactly what I thought it was. A 4k120hz tv is worth the investment

This thread makes me want to try balanced.. ive only done performance because it really is hard for me to go under 60fps Lol.
