    Should I upgrade to a 3DS or just keep my DSi XL?



    I’m getting back into using my DSi XL, and I’m really enjoying it so far! I’ve always wanted a 3DS as a kid, but as an adult I can justify dropping the 300+ dollars on the console. There are of course games I would love to play on it, but would it really be worth it when I already have a DSi XL and DS lite?

      The 3DS will certainly have a wider variety of games, and with the unlocking you’ll also have the DSi, all in one place and much more.

      Ideally you should get a New 3DS XL, as it has the widest array of games and the strongest specs, as well as generally being the best console to homebrew on.

      But id say keep what you got AND get a new one

      You can get a Japanese 3DS for $200 and under on eBay; and from there, you can easily mod it to be region free.

      So I recently got back into playing my regular dsi, and I love it, but my carpal tunnel is really bad with it. I heard of the 3ds xl, so spent the coin on one on marketplace, and it made a HUGE difference with my carpal tunnel. Welllll little to my knowledge, I didn’t know what a ‘new’ 3ds xl was until after I got the reg 3dsxl, and I pretty much paid N3DSXL price, for a regular 3DSXL. I’m pretty bummed, but at least my regular 3dsxl seems like it’s “low mileage”. Almost no scratches on the screens, buttons feel great, hinge is perfect, etc.

      BUT THEN, I tried playing my old DS games on it and was really dissapointed in the awful stretched screen. I had been playing MK7 and it looked great, but when I went back to MKDS, it looked awfully fuzzy and kinda killed the mood for me. A friend told me I could hold select and it shrank the screen size, and that helped, but it was “meh”.

      BUT THEN my buddy told me about the dsi XL and how the big screen on that is better quality and doesn’t stretch the pixels. So now part of me really wants a N3DSXL to run roms on, but part of me wants a good DSiXL for the better screen. Idk. It’s really hard for me to justify paying $350+ for a scratched and beat to hell N3DSXL. Or paying $700+ for a “clean” one. The cost of old gaming stuff is so gross now.

      Just got that 25th anniversary DS from my wife’s collection and actually thought it was a 3DS lol
