I've gotten a used 3ds for cheap, but I did not notice that the lower screen was this messed up. Since it is for a friend, I want to repair it. Is there a way to know whether I have to replace the touch screen or the LCD before disassembing it? Is there perhaps an easier way? I have read the instructions on ifixit and while doable they seem quite involved.
