They're personally one of my favorite aspects of Steam, and one which I'm surprised to have never seen replicated on any other platform really. Not all games on Steam support them, and many which do often times only go with some random character per card, with images taken from within the game itself, or basic promo art, foregoing any description and additional fluff.
I tend to really appreciate the ones which go a bit further with them, though. Just wanted to use a couple of games as examples for what I've really come to appreciate in the trading card system, if developers care to put in a little extra love to them, being Cyberpunk 2077 and Mortal Kombat 1. Cyberpunk 2077 used the various gangs for the basis for their trading cards, and includes a brief summary about who they are in each item description. It's very small in the grand scheme of things and I imagine a lot of people wouldn't really care, but I thought it was pretty neat. MK1 features a bit of character lore in their cards, viewable by clicking to view the card graphic in full. I'm not sure why they didn't include this summary in the item description as well, but I do appreciate how it's presented just the same.
Think I just appreciate the extra bit of charm added with trading cards. Think they add a little bit of extra value to a game, and it can be fun to go back and look at some that I've collected over the years. Wonder if anyone felt similarly about them, or they just immediately sell them off whenever they're dropped lol.
