Honestly, Peter Bradshaw is the worst kind of film reviewer. He's a joyless snob of a critic.

He didn't like the first, and seemingly after it made a billion dollars he's doubling down. Why do people with no knowledge of the subject get to judge?

Anyway, booked my ticket today for Thursday. Still looking forward to it.

    1. It’s… not like the reviews are even going to matter, this film is gonna make even more than the first

Look as a film I’m sure it’s gonna be hot garbage but as a fun piece of fan service it will be fine

    3. Oh brother… Nobody gives a shit about the peter bradshaws of the world. If kids enjoy it, we good.

I don’t really care what critics think for a movie like this. Just give me a fun Mario adventure on the big screen and I’ll be happy.

    5. >It’s now commonplace to compare programmatic stuff like this to AI, but this is almost a second evolutionary step downwards; it looks as if humans, using AI, have tried to copy something that was originally AI generated……

This review is so unserious lmao

the first movie wasnt great, but fun, with great animation. i am assuming this will be the same

    7. One star is probably a bit harsh. And sure the first CGI Mario movie had flaws but was watchable. Anything is better than the live action one…..

    8. Ohh no a bad review. These movies aren’t trying to win oscars. They are here to give us an hour and a half of entertainment. This is the equivalent of bitching about Michael Bay films. He made studios a lot of money.

    9. I’m not sure what you expected from a critic who didn’t enjoy the first movie. I don’t think anyone believed this will be a huge departure from the first.

And what does making a billion dollars have to do with anything? Are you suggesting he should go back and update his critique because the movie made a lot of money?

    10. making a billion dollars does not make a movie good, it also does not mean a critic needs to give its sequel a good score. These kinds of movies are always going to be for the audience and not the critics. These reviews are not for you, ignore them.

Further thought: like most critics, I expect he’s never played Nintendo. He’s sat watching a film having no knowledge of what it’s going on or who anyone is for about 99% of the time.

I mean the first movie lacked anything outside of references fair to say this one gonna be the same.

Because everyone is entitled to an opinion, it’s just as meaningless as anyone else’s lol

The Mario movies are not going to be for everyone.

You either love it because you want to see a little celebration to a franchise you grew up with, or you see it because you are still a child.

I loved it. My nieces did too. My wife thought it was a slog since she’s not in the two categories above.

I don’t know why anyone else would watch them.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was one of the most soulless films I have ever seen. Not the *worst,* the most *soulless.* Like, it was perfectly fine from a technical perspective, had entertaining sequences, and also was utterly devoid of story and meaning. It was a cash grab in the purest sense of the word, a mindless series of references with nothing to say except “hey, remember this from that game you’d rather be playing instead of sitting in this theatre?” It was exactly what I expected from the studio that inflicted Minions upon the world.

So to be honest, I can’t say I’m shocked that the reviews for Galaxy aren’t great.

    16. The Guardian put every thing that is somewhat mainstream down. It’s just what they do.

    17. I kind of feel like everyone expected this movie to be fun and reference-filled, but lacking substance. Just like the first one.

If you really want to watch a critically acclaimed family-friendly space movie, Project Hail Mary is right there.

      >Why do people with no knowledge of the subject get to judge?

Listen, I don’t deny that critics can be very snobbish at times. But this is a HORRIBLE argument. Adaptations (be videogames, books, anything) need to stand on their own. If a movie is ONLY enjoyed by fans of the source material, then it failed as a movie.

For the record, I haven’t watched the Mario movies so I don’t know if they’re good or not. No passing judgment there. But if you want to defend the movies, then use proper reasoning. I want the “fans liked it so if you aren’t a fan of the original you don’t count” argument to die, because people use it to deflect honest comments. The FNAF and Mortuary Assistant fandoms did the same thing. And Mortuary Assistant is a freaking awful movie.

    19. Yeah when i was a kid i loved the movie Milo and Otis. I dare any adult to watch that movie now and tell me about the entertainment value

    20. “Ouch” my foot. Critics panned the first Mario movie. But people loved it and it made billions at the box office.

Movie critics are the worst and most pointless jobs out there. Who the hell cares about what a movie critic thinks???

    21. Ok_Chicken_5256 on

I didn’t know making a billion was suddenly a stamp of excellence. Wow, so many disney live action remakes must be MASTERPIECES.

    22. Funny how he calls the lumas “Minions-y” when, first of all, lumas came first, and secondly, they don’t even act remotely similar.

    23. > Why do people with no knowledge of the subject get to judge?

Because they aren’t really writing reviews for big Mario fans. Those people already know whether they want to see the movie.
