I'm seeing these drawings in a lot of places and sometimes they seem to be around loot and sometimes I'm not sure. so are they significant and are they hinting at something?

There is a side quest you can pick up in Xion that is related to them.

Photography side quest!
They are for a board quest, it will eventually pop on on the assignment board
Bulletin board quest I think. There’s one for cats, butterflies, and the fish
Only if you care about suits. As others said, you can pick up the quests at the bulletin boards and they reward various suits
They’re a headache lol
I found all without looking guides and that was brutal. I can’t even calculate how many hours it took to find all the spots. It became a chore to wander the huge deserts looking for these.
Yeah. There’s a photographer quest to take pictures which starts with the statue of the World Tree in Xion.
After that, you take selfie photos of various graffiti images – Cats in Xion, then Butterflies in the Wasteland, and finally Fish in the Great Desert.
If you get them all, you get a really nice nanosuit as a reward.
