This was at a Canadian Costco. He loaded up every single PS5 digital and disc (bundled with an extra black controller) onto his cart. I was watching him do this as I looked at TVs and said to him “are you going to just resell these?” and he shamelessly said “yup.” This is the type of greed you see in the Bible. There was 5-6 extra employees while he was trying to check out. I’m wondering if they stopped him from buying all of them. But knowing Costco, they probably didn’t.

    1. Also to add to the level of greed, it seems these prices are from old stock before the hike. But he bought 25 PS5s at either $670 CAD (digital + controller) or $740 CAD (disc + controller), for about roughly $20,000 CAD with tax. I assume he’s going to sell the consoles and controllers separately for maximum profit.

    2. Do they offer them on the cheap? Because you’d think people can just buy them on Amazon or similar.

I would have looked him in the eye, grabbed one off his cart and left without breaking any eye contact and saying nothing.

    4. Why are they going to stop a guy buying all those ps5s? Makes no difference to them

    5. The guy is a slime ball, but this is entirely on Costco if they allowed it to buy them. Yes, they’re a capitalist corporation; but the point of paying the annual membership is to be able to buy stuff without this BS taking place.

    6. I don’t understand why Costco would/should care if 10 different people buy 1 PS5 each or if 1 guy buys 10 PS5s

I’ve never seen a Costco that displays these on the floor. They keep them locked up in a back room.

    8. So should we start having little groups of us hanging out at costcos and when these scalpers come out with the entire stores stock, everyone grab two, run off and donate one? The ol Robin Hood

costco don’t care they are getting sales doesn’t matter if it’s one person or ten. but yeh scalping is bad

there should be a limit on how many people can buy and it should be tracked by ID.

The price isn’t going up that much to make these flips profitable. Once you factor in labor, shipping, etc, it’s not that much profit per unit. Idiot.

    12. Buying a “whole” lot of something for “sale” later? Huh, someone should create a business model out of that…

    13. Anonymyne353 on

      Good luck with that.

…do people really think that the PS5 Pro is really in demand right now…?

    14. why there is no purchase limit? i mean its obvious what he is gonna do with all those consoles

    15. MasterTaters93 on

This is how u can tell who is a real adult and who’s not. U can tell this idiot buying all those does not have his priorities straight

    16. How does this scam even work? You just open a line of credit, resell the consoles, pay off the debt and pocket the profits?

    17. Honestly, video game consoles are more of a luxury rather than a necessity.
This is why it’s not regulated in stores if you buy 1 or 50.

    18. As long as people keep buying from those scalpers, the scalpers won’t stop.

No matter how desperate you are, don’t buy from them ever

    19. Advanced-Ad1192 on

Okay well he won’t be able to sell them for $900 because that’s what everyone’s going to have them for. So $850? $100 profit off each and how longs that going to take to sell all those? If he does it on eBay add in shipping and eBay fees. Some people are just dumb. Way better turn around investments out there that aren’t taking products away from people who actually want them.

    20. If you are going to make a profit on something you at least need to be providing some type of service.

The first real photo of a scalper in the wild.
      This is a historic moment.

    22. NecroticOverlord on

Ah yes, I remember that passage in the bible about scalping ps5 very well

    23. Connect-Swing6126 on

Ok but whats the point of scalping ps5? Because currently theres not really a shortage in stock so if you wanted one and saw they were out youd just wait a week or so and itd be back for most major retailers….

    24. Not sure if this is scalping since I doubt he can resell it more than retail. I assume dude is buying before the price increase and intend to make $100 back off each unit.

    25. they would never let him stack the consoles that high, this is fake af. Also, empty costco? YEAH RIGHT…

    26. andrey_not_the_goat on

Who’s he gonna resell them to? It’s not 2020 anymore. You can buy or order a PS5 from every major retailer without hassle. Imagine spending close to 20 grand on consoles that are available anywhere, and thinking you’ll make money out of it…

    27. DWolfoBoi546 on

They need to put a cap on things like this, point blank period. I dont see why anyone would need to buy this many Playstations unless they were a scalper. Of course the stores probably dont care because theyre getting sold either way.

    28. DocHolliday3884 on

Is he even able to make money on these after shipping and fees? Scalpers are so dumb

    29. Isn’t this a win for everyone? (assumes he sells all)

He pays pre hike price, he sells slightly below post hike price for gamers who want one, but aren’t buying yet.

So they get a deal and he makes a little later?

Its not like they’re sold out of PS5s.
